I always felt that the late Queen Elizabeth II was a truly wonderful woman, who served this country with dignety and was respected thoughout the world. Unfortunately, upon her death we have her adulterous son as king, who in my opinion commands no respect whatsoever.

As Sinkov says we need a head of state, however it is a very poor choice with either Charles or even worse President Sunack or Starmer. Just what as our country come too.

As for the national anthem my view is that it should not be about a single person but about the country. Jerusalem or Land of hope and glory (presently however that would be "Land of Hopeless Tories") would seem most logical.

Personally I would rather go to Rwanda than sing "God Save the King".

A very measured and sensible post VC, as always, but as you admit, we have to have a Head of State and never mind Presidents Sunak or Starmer, we could have had President Boris Johnson. Be careful what you wish for.

Oh yes sinkov, remember that President Tony Blair will always be lurking round the corner as well.

Interesting the usual alternatives being suggested for an alternative anthem. Two of three that I have seen were all going to be banned by the BBC at the Last Night of the Proms until Joe Public got involved. They banned Land of Hope and Glory in 1969 but there was such an outcry that they had to re-instate it the next year.
I still think that we should not have one, that way nobody can be offended by its content.Let's face it, as swiss said we are hardly Land of Hope and Glory and BT would be offended if it were Rule Britannia or Jerusalem ----------so where do we go from there?

I used to love singing William Blake's "Jerusalem" at school and in the local church...

And did those feet in ancient time
    Walk upon Englands mountains green:
And was the holy Lamb of God,
    On Englands pleasant pastures seen!

    And did the Countenance Divine,
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
    And was Jerusalem builded here,
    Among these dark Satanic Mills?

Bring me my Bow of burning gold:
Bring me my arrows of desire:
Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of fire!

I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand:
    Till we have built Jerusalem,
In England's green & pleasant Land.

I'd vote for it in a heartbeat.

And I bet very few people know what this is actually about

I recall once discussing this issue in a Church group and we all concluded the song had multiple interpretations Sir Chas, but I'm more than happy to be truly enlightened.

It's a beautiful song, but it might not go down too well as a National Anthem in Scotland, Wales and N Ireland.

We've got to be inclusive mon ami, just like Charlie is their King, it's their National Anthem as well.
