    Squad announced
Would have liked to have seen Branthwaite in there. Had a terrific season for Everton.

A sure sign of the times when less than half the squad come from the 'Big 6' and Crystal Palace have more players in the squad (4) than Man City (3) Arsenal (3) Man Utd (2) Liverpool (2) Chelsea (2) and Spurs (0).

You're totally correct Cam,it is the sign of the times and illustrates the situation of the modern English game. However,at least it reduces the chance of fissures, rifts, sections and separate dining tables that haunted the so called 'golden generation' a decade or so ago.

Real Madrid have 3 players in the provisional Spanish squad, Barcelona have 4.

You'll find it's a common theme in the top leagues, not something exclusive to the English game.

I am not a fan of Southgate but you have to admire him with this squad, he is mainly picking players based on club form, although leaving Maguire out due to injury is convenient. That squad if the first 11 stay fit and play well have a good chance of the last 8 with luck the last 4 but I cannot see us winning and Southgate will leave after the tournament having missed his chance to actually win something, the Italy game at Wembley was the game and he blew it.

It seems to be slightly better news on Luke Shaw if Gareth's presser is anything to go on. The suggestion is that he should be fit for the knock out stages, assuming we get that far.

I know people will disagree but I can't believe Grealish isn't in the squad. I know his form hasn't been great and I'm not saying he should start but for him not to make the 26 is a shock to me.

Luke Shaw will not have played for over 4mths absolute madness. Yet sends a fit Branthwaite home.

Who would you play at LB then if not Luke Shaw? I personally wouldn't be happy with Trippier playing there. I think he's been poor this season. He doesn't play there for his club and neither does Branthwaite.

We aren't blessed with a plethora of left backs. It's a massive gamble taking Shaw in the hope he will be fit enough to play in the latter stages should we get there. In the meantime square pegs will be getting put into round holes with players not in their natural favoured position.
It could well end up being our achilles heel.
