Pretty much the same, Grist, though I think generally American's take a more positive view towards anybody who strives to be successful at something regardless of age. Being a Brit living here also doesn't hurt. People are still curious and like the humor and perceived quirkiness. Whether deserved or not, it helps visibility...

All plans were off when I lost Mrs Jocks a few years ago. I've thrown myself into everything I've come across. Never say no.
Walking, book illustration, open mike nights all over South Yorkshire. Regular jamming days with great mates. Dad still here at 90. A few more Millers away weekends.
I don't miss work at all except the banter.

The OP is a tricky question to answer. I finished off a 37 military career in Australia where I was working part time but in a fairly intense environment. On retirement, I brought my family back to UK with a view to easing myself into a more relaxed lifestyle but I hadn't taken into consideration that natural inclination that Yorkshire folk have of needing to do something otherwise what's the point in existing. Once we'd settled in Lincolnshire, I became restless and looked around for things to do. I chaired a music charity for 7 years, ran the local historical society and served a term as an Independent District Councillor until my wife became ill which meant I had to cut down on my commitments. I'm now fully engrossed in home maintenance, being the working hand fulfilling all the outdoor tasks that wifey desires, looking after her horses and paddocks and generally keeping the place up to snuff. I also find time to keep my recording studio ticking along and keeping my hand in on the piano and guitar.

Am I more active since I retired? I've never been so busy in my life and I still find time to follow the Mighty Millers!!
