Regardless of how much of a pension they have or how much savings they have our parents, grand parents deserve it.
There could be a charity set up for those that are rich enough to donate it if they wish.
This labour leadership is worse than Thatcher!
Good post..I'm a pensioner..I can manage without it..and that's without being rich myself..but that's not the point..the point is, there are many more sources the savings could have come from..like extra tax for the rich, who will always vote Tory at the next election anyway..
Labour arnt labour anymore, and they've just dug their grave already..time for proper change..

In Christian Religion Starmer would be called Judas
A tory in a Labour suit.
Pensioners will remember him betraying them.

Thinking about who votes for which party at election time should not even come into it though Milla.
The positions should serve everyone with equality

The fact that I keep coming back after watching the Millers for so many years explains my 'andle.

Perhaps it applies to many of us, come to think of it.

Labour politicians and the left-wing media portrayed them that way when the Tories were in power. Forced to choose "heating or eating".

I've never before agreed with anything said by that prize shytt-pot David Cameron, but he suggested it should have been applied to those paying tax at 40% and above.

The fact that it wasn't confirms that this government - despite being aware of the potential death toll having commissioned a report when in opposition - are a set of vindictive 2-hats.

That article doesn't appear to relate to pensioners.

Many Tories called for the benefit to be means tested. What's your point?

Does what politicians have said in the past have any bearing upon whether means testing makes sense?

There's those that will clearly need it but just miss out and then there's those like my Mate and his Wife.

They decided to move to Lanzarote permanently approx 3 years ago having had a brand new £280,000 house built for them.

For the last 3 years both of them have claimed the winter allowance because the Government said they were entitled to do so, because they had property they owned and rented out here in the UK at the time, although clearly living abroad. They thought it was great, which just goes to show what a mess the last Government was running before being driven out.

In fairness it was Labour who introduced the fuel allowance as a non-means tested benefit. They did it in 1997 when a far higher percentage of pensioners were living in poverty than now.

I don't recall pensioners freezing to death before the introduction of the fuel allowance, but that doesn't appear to discourage the current scare tactics of the right.
