Thread: Wrexham Post Match Thoughts

  1. #21
Wxm fan here... Rotherham will end up contesting the PO's IMHO...along with us!

We've found out that this league isn't 'all that' tbh. Brum will obv stroll it...the rest of us are fighting for that second spot.

We are second in the league purely on our Home form, which is a completely different style to our away play. We never push it away from home like we do at home...gawd knows why, but it is, what it is!

Good luck for the rest of the season chaps...

Wrexham gave the ball up frequently and easily, and even at the speed we played at we could move the ball around very easily. They're obviously riding the wave right now but that team is not going to pull any trees up without some changes.

We were too slow in possession, had no urgency with set pieces or when they dropped back after losing the ball, and we have no real goal threat from this system. Need either a natural striker or to play with a bit more energy, moving through the gears a bit more... this laboured, plodding approach will get us nowhere.

Not a terrible day, and 1-0 flattered them hugely, but we just don't seem to have a great deal of spirit in this team. If we had, today would have been a walkover.

Did we deserve a point today? Of course we did and some might say even more, such was the dominance from us against a team I was expecting to show us how to play football.

How the heck are Wrexham 2nd in the table with that display? Granted they've got a great back line but offer little else. I don't expect them to go up automatically on today's showing.

Anyway on to us. wrong set up, wing play brought on far far too late but who am I to spot that and raise the point again, after all I'm only a fan!

I know halloween is coming up but have we got Dracula in our net already? 'COME OFF YOUR LINE MAN, A CROSS WON'T HURT YOU!'
Couldn't do anything about their goal as Humphreys clearly made a mess of that. Little else to do as we dominated the vast majority of the game. One decent save towards the end of the game but boy, he doesn't instill any confidence in our back line due to his incompetence of being super glued to the goal line. Oh for another Viktor

Two players who I thought today were battered about and couldn't cope with their front two, Humphreys- awful game and McCart, who for once couldn't win very much against their big number 9. Bramall was much improved and James had a decent game but was correctly subbed to allow Hungbo on, but far too late to make a bigger impact than what he did. Rafferty had a steady game.

Powell easily the better player in the middle with his tenacious attitude although credit to both Tiehi and Odoffin as they played a smart game linking up well.

Nombe was never going to win a single header today but we insisted with hoof ball at times totally killing his game. He should have scored at the end and is still probably asking himself how he put that one wide. As for Wilks, he's a hot and cold player for me. Brilliant and unplayable first half at Posh last weekend and today? and what was that shot trying to score from such an impossible angle when we had 3 in the box just waiting for that roll back in order to shoot, as it happens he somehow got a corner from it other than that he should have been subbed much earlier.

Holmes, what a breath of fresh air this young lad is but why oh why does Evans insist on bringing him on so late in our games? Give him a ferking start and offer that extra wing attack option against other teams. Ditto with Hungbo, they couldn't cope with his trickery and how many brillinat crosses did he get in and away from their keeper? Why is Evans so scared of using wing play when it's so effective and we all can see it when it happens, but far too late in a game?

Overall, a very good display against a big unit of a side. Opportunities missed with formation, play (hoof ball), and late subs. Was I entertained? yes I was. Am I disappointed this evening? Yes but get the balance right and we will progress, it's the stubbornness of Evans that is spoiling most of our game.

Anyway, I'm off to Leyton Orient on Tuesday night such is my commitment to following the team, wish me luck.

NB. The Ref was a ****!

Cheers pal but honestly, we should have had a cricket score against your lot today. Shame Clark - Harris was missing he would have proper enjoyed a good old ruck against your back line.

    Much Ado About Nothing.
How anyone can say we played well baffles me.
Yes we had a lot of possession but did nothing with it for the most part and their keeper was generally untroubled.
We have so many gaps in the team that we are unlikely to worry anyone in the upper reaches of the table.
Before the season started I heard Stephen Warnock assessing the likely candidates for promotion from League 1 and although Rotherham got a mention he did say he wasn't sure that Steve Evans management style would still cut it in today's world.
Unfortunately it looks like he might be right.

Positives. We played some nice skillful football. We played out from the back and the passing was good. Powells dead ball kicking has improved. Bramall offered a real threat and had a good game. The wide substitutions were good. Hungbo especially. He offers a threat.
    Negatives.
Half asleep in the first minute. Let's blame the sun. Big inquest needed there Mr Evans. Simply not acceptable.
And finally...NO END PRODUCT. We need to find a new target man/striker in January. Nombe does not fit this bill. Hugill nah. JCH.. not convinced.
We are not far off. We didn't deserve to lose today but their back four old manned us. Wrexham are terrible and I'm amazed they are where they are. Good support from a load of Johnny come lately glory hunters.
    It won't last

Funny old game football, I thought Wrexham played well scored early job done. They are a Professional outfit, work hard, well coached &every player knows his job. They probably pay more in wages than us but they have no super stars. If they do spend some money in January I will expect them to go up.Let’s see how good they are at home & if they have as much possession that we had today I think a good hidings on the cards.
