I was agreeing with a positive post. I thought my reply was positive, but having read it back not so much.

I like Whittaker. He's got an awful lot to offer as a full time professional, including goals. His ceiling in the game will be dictated by how well he adapts to the physical and mental (teamwork, concentration etc.) side of the game.
If I was in charge I would certainly offer him a contract extension and give him game time next season.

In an ideal world he would have come in whilst Crowley was still in the building, had 6 months to develop and learn off him whilst getting minutes off the bench.
Unfortunately it wasn't to be and as a result he's been unfairly asked to plug too big a gap on his own.

I suppose it goes back to my original post about loans.
Whittaker was a gamble to fill the void left by Crowley. If Notts could have got a loan, or two, through the door it would have increased the probability of filling that void.

I think I’ve missed the games where Whitaker has played well, because I’ve been very underwhelmed every time I’ve seen him. He has been easily dispossessed, lightweight and unable to influence games - much the same criticism I’d level at Grant. Yes, Crowley could frustrate with his ball-greediness, but you never forgot he was actually on the pitch, and he did link up with players ahead of him.

Whitaker is learning and he's got real promise, he may or may not develop but he is worth a shot imo
The difference is with Jatta he loses possession in the opposition half, Whitaker loses it in transition in the middle of the park and when losing it directly leads to goals. Jones has been poor since returning from injury but we weren't talking about him.

IF we had signed him on an 18 month deal then i'd be all for keeping him ( mainly as we have no choice ), but he isn't a local lad who has come through our academy, he clearly thinks he is better than he is, doesn't work hard and we have a chance to get rid in the summer and we should take it.

to echo what someone said in another post, if we release him, i highly doubt he'll be playing L2 football next year

Watching Notts v Doncaster on Saturday two of the standout performers for Doncaster were Street and Crew.
Street produced the best traditional centre forward display I've seen at ML this season. The way in which he tested and bettered both Platt and Bedeau physically as well as hurting Notts in behind was exceptional.
Crew wasn't as eye catching, but equally effective. He broke up play, his defensive positioning was excellent and he was neat and tidy in possession a very accomplished CM performance.

Both are on loan at Doncaster. As is Thier first choice goalkeeper - Sherman-Lowe

Obviously Abbott has been a great find this season and has been one of Notts standout performers, but I can't help but feel Notts have under utilised the loan market this season.
Given injuries have held Notts back, any reason why there hasn't been much loan activity? 5 players are allowed in a first team squad I think?
Doncaster played four loanees on Saturday (Ennis came on near the end) and had another who wasn?t in the match day squad. That seems like too many, but it clearly worked for Donny.

We did superbly to land George Abbott, but he feels like the exception rather than the norm in our recruitment of young loanees in recent years. If we were by some miracle to get promotion this season, we?d become a much more attractive place for Premier League and Championship clubs to send their brightest prospects next season.
