I'd say that the dross Jewell bought in the Jan window was even worse, that was supposed to be the foundations of a promotion the following year.
I know it's the Derby way, but we can't forever fear promotion because of how we fared in the one season. I'd rather go up and come back down, then linger as an also-ran forever. Nearly 20 years since our last top flight outing, is this our longest spell outside?
All academic, we won't go up, and I don't expect any miracle January purchases. Midtable will feel frustrating, but considering many feared promotion from L1 would be disaster, I think we're doing well.
anywhere 8 to 12th will I think be a success - certainly be happy with it.Its easy to blame injuries but weve already lost Morris for most of rest of season after he had been a revelation, Beck all season (mind you no clue how good he might have been) and Agyemang, Langas, Travis, Johnston, Ozoh, Nelson for protracted spells. No doubt more to come: so some cover at fullback seems a need and a loan target man to cover until Morris back perhaps. Midfield I think will be OK with Travis due back imminently and Ozoh in a couple of weeks adding to Clark, Adams, Thompson, and there isnt much capacity to fit new players into squad
INdeed establish Derby in the Championship then build from there.
Personally I don’t fear promotion. I fear being unprepared for promotion. I think I’d rather stay in the Championship than have a repeat of last time when each weekend just seemed to be a matter of ‘how many are we going to lose by’ and it was one of the least enjoyable seasons I can remember.
With the right additions and a little good fortune I still wouldn’t absolutely rule out a top six finish and then it becomes a lottery.
Honestly though, whatever my heart may feel, my head says, have a decent, stress free second half of this season that acts as a springboard for proper strengthening and having a real go at promotion next time around.

Beck went back to 'Pool. That freed up a space in the 25 man squad. We have to get rid before we can buy/loan incoming players. That spot went to Nelson.
So, who's to go? Or will some unlucky player be left out of the 25 and be unable to find a new club?
CBT and Jackson could easily be replaced with improvements, IMO.
Nyambe seems out of favour.
Will Adams disciplinary issues of collecting yellow cards like they're going out of fashion see jim surplus to requirements, especially with Travis (another serial yellowist) and Ozoh being close to their returns?
Be surprised-and disappointed-if Adams were to go. I know he hasn?t reproduced his POTS performances of the last one and a half seasons but he?s still one of the few who can do a job we may need between now and May.
There are at least three others I?d prefer to move on before Adams and let?s not forget the window works both ways so someone may come in for Clark (Celtic?) or destabilise our attempt to sign Sanderson.
