Furious Micky Mellon admits Dundee United half-time inquest brought 'extra 30 per cent

“We had a chat at half-time and they went out in the second half and the thing that makes you more angry is that they found that extra 30 per cent and looked like a completely different team as if I’d made eleven subs.

“We should start with that level of intensity. I’ve spoken to the players about that. It’s something we’ll ask again when we go into training.

“We understand that we need to win games of football. We won’t shy away from that. We know the importance of getting ready for an important game at the weekend.

“I won’t lie to you and say I don’t understand where we are in the league. We will get on with our jobs and try to improve and if we do that we should be okay.

“Are the players up for battle? I’m not even thinking about that at the minute. I’m thinking about getting up for the challenge at the weekend and getting going again.”

United had four penalty appeals waved away and Mellon said: “To sit and talk about penalties after a defeat people will say I’m talking about referees again but we were denied stonewallers again that would have come at an important time.”

    Well another Frustrating game......

Wasn't confident once I saw the starting line up. Most of us have been calling for 3 at the back but not that 3 at the back. We were asking for trouble with that lineup. Although we started not bad, we started to look uncomfortable then bang another rubbish goal from a set piece (genuinely starting to wonder if we actually work on them). Then a poor 2nd goal where we let them pass it around then get a shot away. Easily could have been 3/4 down at half time. Raging.
2nd half we came out with more desire and attitude. Changed shape and had players more in comfortable positions. Could have had a penalty (one on pawlett i think was, the other two just before it i dont think were tbh). looking more interested starting to play some decent stuff but as always let down by end product. Motherwell always looked dangerous on the counter (mainly with Devante Cole) and could have scored 1/2 themselves. Finally a goal from a set piece! putting more pressure on them but just couldn't get many chances. Sporles chance was decent but just couldn't find the finish.

So another disappointing result. we certainly are in freefall and in serious danger of in a real dog fight!.

    Notes
    1. 3 at the back only works with correct players in the formation (forcing a CM and LB into the 3 when 2 CBs sit on bench)
    2. Still cant defend set pieces
    3. Pawlett made big difference when came on (like to see him played slightly higher up)
    4. Sporle should be given a run in the team and stop forcing certain guys in the team who don't deserve to play
    5. Mellon needs to start playing guys in their strongest position or we will be going down!

    6pointer on saturday.

We are the whipping boys of the league now, every other team are now armed with either new players or a new manager and are giving it a go and when they come up against they see it as 3 points. that is a situation you really struggle to get out of.

We are pursuing methods that don't and haven't really ever worked.

Unless things change dramatically before the Ross Co game I cannot see anyway that we will even pick up a point !!!! The team organisation is a total shambles and confidence is rock bottom and who knows what MM is up to. Just wish he would pack his bags now in order to give us a chance to turn things around.

I thought we actually played really well last night for most of the match. The defending at set pieces needs sorting out pronto but I thought we were good for a point at least.

The biggest thing to fear for Saturday is our own low confidence, not the opposition.

Can be rest assured MM isn't going anywhere. For that to happen Asghar will need to admit to the owner he f*cked up on numerous fronts and he isn't going to do that imo. Not to mention the fact that if we couldn't afford a single player in January, we sure as he'll can't afford another substantial fee in compensation for the manager.
I fear our current setup is a recipe for disaster tbh. An owner who knows nothing about football putting his absolute trust in a sporting director who thinks his work as a football agent makes him a good candidate to be running our football club. All this advising of players to the manager, the signing of Hoti, the extending of Harkes & Connollys contracts, it really doesn't sit well with me in the slightest
