I generally hate these "club insiders say..." rumours because they're usually a load of rubbish spread by people with some sort of agenda, often after a poor performance, but even if this were true, then actually so what?
Adhering to the wishes of the business owner is part and parcel of being employed in any job unless you own/run the business yourself. If you can't accept this fairly basic fact of (working) life, don't accept the role in the first place. Or, if you think you've been misled or you've subsequently stopped seeing eye to eye with your employer, then quit and explain why if you wish.
Let's face it, the clue to Luke Williams' role is probably in the name. He's a Head Coach, not a Manager. Maybe this does suggest that recruitment isn't solely under his control, and that his job is to coach the players assembled by a recruitment team. I'm pretty sure the current owners would have set out the parameters very clearly to Luke Williams before he agreed to take the role, so he should put up or clear off.
I don't really have an issue with the quality of most of the players we've recruited under the current owners. Nobody gets every signing right, but generally we've brought in much better players for much better value than we ever did under previous regimes. That's why other teams have come after the likes of Wootton, Roberts and Rodrigues.
My main concern after three games is whether we've got another Head Coach who doesn't know how to set the team up to get the best out his squad. I'm pretty sure the 5-3-1-1 (or whatever the hell it is) isn't going to win us enough games to be challenging for the title. Anticlough described it as Frankenstein's monster and he's not far off the mark imho.
We need to change to a more attacking formation which better suits our players, and sharpish. We appear to have some excellent attacking talent and potential regular goal scorers in the likes of Langstaff, Scott and Austin, as well as Ruben, but they won't score many goals if they're not getting enough service through midfield or from out wide, or getting splinters in their arse on the bench.
It's early days and far too soon to draw any absolute conclusions about the new Head Coach yet, but I want to see signs that he's learning quickly. The Gateshead game was a disappointment not a disaster, but it should be an important lesson.
