Prove it! That's impossible.
As is the assertion that if McInnes had more balls and wasn't tactically inept, we would have beaten Celtic.
It's only McInnes' record against all the other teams that had us anywhere close to Celtic in the first place. Was he tactically inept in all these other game too?
I really don't get the hatred and vitriol by some towards the best manager we have had for years.
You would have to think that McInnes had a list and we have failed with a good number of targets on that said list. Surely he's not stupid enough to have left his business to after the season started. Then again maybe he has written off Europe and will be ready to have a real go at domestic trophies.
Prove it!
Just kidding.
I honestly don't think his lack of balls has really cost us silverware. It may have cost us in getting a wee bit closer to Celtic in the league but I don't think we would ever have over taken them.
As for the cups last year, individual errors rather than lack of balls cost us.
Agree, can we just give the guy a break and get behind the team... he’s done a good job in the time he’s been here. Yes, he’s had the advantage of a few big teams not being in the top flight, and yes of course we could’ve done better in some games here and there over the last four years. However, he’s achieved a level of consistency over 4 seasons that I’m pretty sure we would all have been pleased with if we’d been offered it 5 or 6 years ago.
It doesn’t make him immune from criticism but he definitely doesn’t deserve all the flack he gets. The job gets harder every year, even if his budget has increased it’s still limited and there’s a lot of competition for decent affordable players. Expectation levels have risen because he’s done a good job for the last 4 years - maintaining those standards, never mind improving on them is not easy.
Similar to Kenny McLean, we’ll not realise how good and important DM was until he’s gone.
Having said all that, I’m as disappointed as anyone at our lack of signings - but I’m sure McInnes is more frustrated than any of us.
I’d agree.
He’s had a list of targets, some he got in early (Forrester (he was after 4 years ago), Gleeson, Ferguson and let’s not forget Devlin who was planned for this year).
Others he missed out on (McGeoch, Naismith and Marquis) with no doubt others we aren’t aware of.
It’s a tough market we live in with the budget we have.
Preparations can be made as to who we would like in advance, then it’s the tough job of actually recruiting them.
Potentially signs that more youth will get an opportunity, so let’s not forget them adding to the squad.
I’d expect there to be more signings, but the window is still open for 5 more weeks and the reality is that we will need to be patient if we want the better of those available as they weigh up their options.
I hope he sees that celtic weren't great last season. Havent really strengthened this season(yet) and we should be aiming to catch them. That would show balls. His opening gambit to new signings should be. "we are going to catch celtic". Its not out of the realms of possibility.
Forrester and Ferguson do look good to add a rare bit of positivity from me.
