He was undermined by the US Civil Service from 2016 and so this time he is getting rid of career Civil Servants, who have never had a job in the real world and bringing in people he can trust.

He is trying to resurrect a meritocracy rather than the technocracy that is currently in place. He's not alone, many countries are moving that way - not the UK though, but many other countries are.

You should rise through the ranks on your ability, not because you have the 'right' name, or went to the 'right' university, or progress through term of service.

This is how the word is upside down. To me, from a working class family, I want the ability to better myself. A technocracy prevents that. A technocracy enforces a form of caste system, that you can't rise through.

As an aside, good news out of the Middle East as a ceasefire is on the horizon. Nothing to do with the fact that the political onus has changed since the US election in the Middle East, I'm sure.

Hamas will have to cede many of the things that they have insisted on and territory lost, but they have been abandoned by many of their supporters in the Middle East since the US election.

I have seen no evidence that he's clever. Cunning, yeah. A solid con-man (the greatest in history perhaps) but not particularly bright at all.

I agree he will have learned from last time though. If he a pulls a Jan 6 again, for sure he will stack the Pentagon first. I expect him to deal with the military's lack of personal loyalty to him early on.

But a meritocracy? The guy inherited his wealth and then spectacularly mismanaged it. He is the least representative of meritocracy of any name I could think of. He isn't your champion, that's another of his cons. People like him (generational wealth) are holding people like us back.

You either believe in the US Justice System that there were grounds initially to prosecute Trump, or you don't believe in it, by thinking that the charges were purely political.

If you believe in it, you can't pick and choose what suits your case.

Those of us that had to listen to the vitriol about the charges knew that when Trump won, the charges would be dismissed.

I understand that no legal system is perfect. However, I believe that the whole thing was political and was just another attempt by the establishment to prevent Trump from winning. Unfortunately, it contributed to the devasting defeat that the establishment experienced at the election.

The people have spoken.

How many people actually died because of January 6th? You keep making claims, but they're unsubstantiated.

One person died after being shot in the shoulder by police - Ashli Babbit, a Trump supporter.

Four other deaths have been attributed to the event. Three were natural causes and one a drugs overdose.

Can you prove any different, because apart from left-wing propaganda, I can't see any unbiased reports that show different.

Now at least 25 people died during the Portland riots of 2020 after George Floyd died. Are those deaths not important?

No, I believe in Democracy and really do respect the election results (as you say, the people have spoken) I just had a chuckle because that's what so many people have said about Brexit (which I voted for and in hindsight wish I hadn't).

Many on here voted for Starmer during the last election. I bet some, except those in the Politburo, regret doing it. They weren't made to vote Labour, but chose to. That's democracy.

It's not really confidence , Trump was relatively successful during his first term. The fact that once he won his second term, the stock market rocketed shows what the money men (and women) believe he can do with the economy.

I once said on here, that if Trump found a cure for cancer, there would still be many that would berate him. It's astounding the negativity from the British media towards him and of course, that transposes to people's views. I think that says more about the media than anything. The same media that covered up for Joe Biden when everyone who wasn't one-eyed could see for years about his decline. The same media that touted Kamala Harris as the great hope for the world.

Surely there comes a time when people question what they are being fed?
