That's the problem with the happy clapper who keep repeating the 5hite about, 'bit fa wid yi replace Derek with'. Frankly that's not my problem, it's up to the board to identify a manager who can get more from a more than decent squad for this league. Looking to Motherwell etc as only source of a replacement shows how stupid some supporters are. Aberdeen is a decent gig for a manager and I'm pretty sure we'd get applicants who can energise the team and start playing decent stuff. Far better getting a manger who isn't from the corridors of Scottish football and gives zero 7ucks about the uglies and SFA.

That's true up to a point, but I think picking such a manager is way easier said than done.

Only twenty years ago you'd have thought that a Scandinavian manager who'd built a very, very good Brondby side, fit, skilful, athletic, organised, that had gone deep in Europe, knocking out Liverpool on the way, was a right good bet as gaffer.

Didn't work out so well, that one.

The main problem with picking a European manager is the same now as then.
Namely, in Europe, the far more common structure is first-team coach and director of football.

That was a massive problem when Ebbe came in, that and him initially getting an absolute chocolate teacup in as assistant manager.

Remember our improvement (such as it was) when Ebbe got Gardiner Spiers in as assistant manager?

Not cos Gardiner was any kind of tactical/coaching/managerial genius, but because he understood how the the all singing, all dancing team manger concept worked.

Don't get me wrong, there's nae happy-clapping here, I think the club has gone stale and turgid under McInnes's stewardship and his time is up.

But I think his departure has to be part of a root and branch restructuring of the club.

Simply sacking him and seeing what turns up would be a huge, huge gamble.

I think Barry Robson will be in with a good chance of getting the gig, if DM gets his jotters before the end of the season. Might only be till end of the season with the chance to make it permanent should he impress.

Worked out for Lennon, albeit on a much bigger budget etc etc.

Doesn’t matter who you appoint, always an element of risk involved. Obviously would have been preferable if Robson had done his apprenticeship in the managerial hot seat elsewhere but sometimes, getting chucked in at the deep end works.

Robson seems to pally pally with the players. I could see him getting it as caretaker and reckon he would do quite well but doubt it would work taking it any further.

Wouldn’t Sheerin be ahead of Robson in the queue just in terms of him managing the “reserves” as opposed to Robson managing the u-18’s?
    I agree though.
If we lost to Hamilton, the Dhims & Killie in the cup, the fan anger may force Cormack to act?
Robson/Sheerin to take on the job in a caretaker capacity.

I think it’s pretty certain they’d get the gig on a temporary basis. I don’t think it would work too well though. Sheerin seems to get the youngsters playing attacking football and scoring goals but I would imagine the Americans would want to bring in a “name”. Robson has a will to win as a player but I lost all respect for him when he said in pre-season before a ball was kicked that he hoped we would manage to get back to third spot in the league this year. If that’s where he’s setting the bar he’s got the wrong mindset for me - he’s take us into games against the OF with the same inferiority complex as we currently have and give the players the impression that finishing 3rd and qualifying for Europe is enough.

I can’t think of any Scottish manager I’d actually want

If we lose next week in the Cup (a 50/50 game IMO) then he should go.

I don’t think he will though.

I think come the split we’ll be 5th as we have tough games.
Think we have Killie, Motherwell & Livi all away & Hibs at hime?
All teams in & around us.

The Cup is basically keeping him in a job for now, but even the a@sehole happy clap clap clappers will think about it being the time to go maybe?
They just come back with the usual “ah but who do we get?”
