I read Lampard said the Chelsea players were not fit, hinting it is Graham Potter's fault,

IF Potter has caused the damage then that's maybe why they got rid. Lampard was brought back in to cover to the season end then he's also out, plus he knows the layout etc.

The manager they are after may have loose ends to tie up where he is or currently doing commentary for a TV company and his contracted to the season end.

Don't rule out the 'chosen one' making a return. He's probably down to his last £70 Mill so fancies a quick contract where he fails he can top his assets up.

Agree, Potter did a good job at Brighton, to me not allowed enough time in the job at Chelsea.
Wasn't Potter tipped for the next England managers job.
