See honesty in journalism as exemplified by yesterday’s Evening Express supplement.
Not a dog fan, I’m afraid - smelly and unhygienic - although it was discussed, I couldn’t ever my head around having one in the house, with flakes of dried sh*** falling from its ar** onto my carpets, without warning. Then I read about expunging puss from the anal glands, etc, etc - a goldfish was offered as an alternative, but refused. They survived the ordeal.
On the theme of pets, and things I thought I'd never dae?
Firstly, Ah never thought Ah'd hae tree frogs as pets, but I 'fostered/adopted' three 10 year old Whites Tree Frogs back in 2015 - Previous owner and friend unable to continue to care for them.
I've always loved frogs of all kinds, so, yeah, I jumped at the offer. Lovely creatures, and facinating to watch .... even if they sleep a lot and dinna dae a lot in between ... but ....
I never, ever thought I would ever take a frog to the vet!
White's tree frogs tend to overeat if allowed, and as they get older, they can build up cholesterol deposits on their cornea ... limiting their vision and ability to spot their prey and accurately pounce on same.
One of my frogs went this way, and her eyes were so cloudy, Ah decided tae pop her intae a wee box and get her seen tae.
Vet had never treated a frog ever, and had tae seek advice elsewhere.
Tae cut a lang story short, Ah was charged £26 for the consultation, and £13 for a tiny wee tube (1ml) o' cream tae apply tae her eyes twice daily. Ah dinna ken what was in that cream, but it costs £13k per kilo!!! ... weight for weight, aboot the same as a one an' a half Henrik Larssons based in fit Timothy bought him for !
.... Onywye, somehow, Ah lost the wee tube o' cream on the wye hame fae the vet, and had tae go an' get anither tube the next day.
So ... £52 in total .... White's tree frogs ( aye, young anes) were sellin for £4 at the pet shop on Constitution Street at the time .... so ... in view o' the fact that same auld frog died two weeks later, Ah'd hae been better aff jist replacin the auld bugger, and kept the equivalent o' 12 frogs-worth o' cash still in ma pooch!

Private healthcare for frogs?
Speaking of private healthcare, I've had reason to use it here over the past few weeks.
See a specialist consultant the next day, half hour appointment ( but longer, no rush at all), luxury surroundings, it helps that the consultant is a young pretty blonde.
Cost = £65
I'm a great believer in the NHS but my god it needs reforming from top to bottom.
I've never actually had an appointment in Aberdeen ( well it's nearly impossible to get one) but I'm registered at the Denburn.
What a total shïtehole of a place that is.
So, like the frogs, I never thought I would use private medical care but I'm glad I did.
P.S. I can't imagine what that cream for the frogs eyes was supposed to do, apart from help the vets profit margin.
