    Just for you.
"The point I was trying to make about football fans and their allegiance to 'their' football clubs was that we are almost powerless to the whims of a rich owner. That nearly destroyed Pompey and the tone of my post was that I would not want that to happen to any club.
Not a hard point to get is it?"

No particular response was necessary but you chose to make one, for some odd reason. Once again, well done.
    Fair and neutral points?
    "Selling club"
    "Feeder club"
    "Mounting debt"
But I suppose he got the reaction that he wanted.[/quote]

The first two points are a matter of perception, as to whether you find those comments neutral or not.
The fact is that SFC have a very good academy that has produced some excellent players but they are continually sold on to bigger clubs. The statements are therefore, in my opinion, correct.
On the 'mounting debt', well it appears to be true, if what we read is correct.

In one simple sentence you demonstrate how clueless you are. To be a feeder club you need an Academy to produce the players, you don't. You have History as a club that overspends to achieve, Welch on the debts and spend decades in the hinterland until the next time you go overstretching yourself... Talk about burying head in the sand...

In some respect, any club outside the top 4 or 5 is some degree of feeder club, and many clubs overspend to try and achieve.
In Pompey's case they spent big while being funded by a rich owner, achieved some success and then had the owner pull the plug.
Kind of going back to my original point. At the whim of rich owners, and their ability or willingness to foot the bill.
Where would Southampton be if Marcus had not bailed you out at the last minute, paid your debts and then stuck loads more money in. You got a benevolent and genuine owner and we did not. As football fans we are sometimes just along for the ride, with very little power. Pompey fans are hoping now (through the trust) to have more power and say in their club.
Again, hope that NO football club has to go through what we went through.

Pompey are special, they are special to me because they are my club.
You are right other clubs, notably Leeds and Luton have suffered from mismanagement and poor ownership and ,again if you read the post and take it in, that is what I am saying. We as football fans, in general have no say or control of the owners we get and what they do to our club.
I am trying to get past mere abuse hurling and pissing contests, and have stated that I think NO club should go through it. And please don't think that Southampton are safe from this scenario. No club is!
