When the FA start docking points for low attendances we will start to worry, until then let the football do the talking.

    Lowest points total EVER! Fact!

    Hope to see you soon!

And then... Not enough Wigan fans give a **** enough to turn up to watch it.

The number of empty seats in the first leg tonight is actually embarrassing, total lack of an atmosphere.

With support as bad as this, I see no place for Wigan in the Premier League. They are a lower league club artificially elevated by their owners finances.
Try telling that to Burnley. Their average attendance during the season they've just had... 13,719!!!

There have been 257,922 more people at the iPro this year[/quote]

That's Burnley. They have been mostly a championship team.

Wigan have been a Premier league team (note that I say 'team' and mot 'club') for a few years now mainly yet can't muster enough fans to

Since when did the amount of fans in the stand determine how many points you get?

I don't understand this logic of going to matches and watching and counting the crowd.

Football is played on the pitch and ultimately over a season a club ends up playing the next season in the league they deserve to be based on performances on the pitch on over the course of the previous season.

Let's not forget Derby is a big City 3 times the population of Wigan and Burnley and Derby certainly don't get 3 times the attendance. 9,000 empty seats on average this season at Derby, despite being a fantastic season and being in a good location and a 1 sport City.

It's a very bitter attitude, to argue someone in a direct fight for promotion doesn't deserve promotion because of attendances due to being a small town, where people are quite poor and there's two major sports teams, with a lot of people glory hunting United, City, Liverpool, Everton etc who are all with 20 miles of Wigan. Hell some people in t

    Bang on there!!

The point that the couple of Wigan fans responding on here fail to be grasping is that here is a club that is elevated to a position beyond its ability or need. Football attendances don't go up and down proportionally with the size of a town or city. And this has nothing to do with regular season matches.

Play off games should be absolute sell outs. There should be people queuing down the street for tickets, trying to get into the game at all costs. As the Burnley fan pointed out earlier in this thread, Play Off tickets should be as easy to come by as r

I have never got the attendance debate.

Fair enough, if football was a truly level playing field and you were only bankrolled from tickets and merchandise, then the attendance would matter more, but it doesnt.

What I think is more of a valid argument, is why a team with low attendance, like Wigan, Pompey, QPR, etc, do get bankrolled by rich owners, which then in turn puts a club in a perilous state should the money dry up.

The money in football will eventually dry up and then we will see many clubs go under, then it wont matter how many people attend.

Local English businessman buys his home town club????? whats supposed to be wrong with that?
Did we buy our 8 years in the Prem? did we buy the FA Cup? No! Derby is a bigger town! But Billy big boots mentalitiy!

Why don't YOU all support Man Utd they are more succecssful than both teams combined?

Probably for the same reason we ALL don't cos it's not our local town.
