For as long as I can remember we and the media have been placing blame with the manager and then the inevitable happens...he gets sacked. We get a new manager and guess what...he gets sacked. A perpetual cycle of the blame the manger game.

The problem isn't the manger, it's the state of English football. There are too many foreign players playing in the premier league. The sooner the FA sort that out the better. They've made some feeble attempt to address the issue. They've proposed this 'B' team model. By doing this they appease the dominant premier teams while looking like they're encouraging the development of raw English talent. IMO this falls well short of what actually needs to be done. There needs to be a limit of how many foreign players in the FIRST team of the premier league. Yes this will jeopardise the short term aspirations of the prem teams, but in the long term it will benefit all. Just a pitty that money rules the game, which is one of several reasons why I'

I think that we all have to concede that England are a second rate nation at international level.

We lack the technical ability to compete. You can tinker with formations, select different players, change the emphasis in one direction or another. But we lack quality and ultimately that will be our undoing.

That part isn't down to the manager. Could Roy have done better? Yes, probably. Should we sack in and bring in yet another guy who will probably fail just as inevitably? Can't see the point.

I have really enjoyed this World Cup so far, which I wasn't expecting to be honest. Despite the heat and humidity, the expected demonstrations, the fear that pitches and stadiums wouldn't be ready, it's been bloody brilliant. Nations a fraction of the size of England's population, nations with far less competitive league clubs, with a much lower standard of domestic competition, have looked positive and skillful. How good did Ghana look this evening against Germany, a little naive at times bu

No one seems to mention the purpose of St Georges Park. This was built with the objective of developing youngsters into good players and training coaches as we have very few in this country. It is a long term process which other countries have been doing for years. The whole project should have begun years ago but for the FAs obsession with building the nation stadium at Wembly at enormous cost. With the result St Georges was put on hold. Roy was appointed as part of this long term plan so to sack him now would be a backward step.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. so until the whole plan progresses nothing will change.

I also agree with Rattea while the Prem clubs keep bringing in foreign players, giving our youngsters no chance, good English players will be very restricted.

Our players are useless, what good is removing another manager? Hardly Roy's fault that one of our most experienced players can't head the ball forward is it?

The problem isn't the manager, it's the **** poor players this country's coaching system consistantly churns out. Do you really think that ANY of our players would make it into the 2 sides that just beat us?

We were never gonna get out of the group stage, all 3 teams are better than us - yes I include Costa Rica in that too.

We may have lost but at least Roy got us playing some decent football, rather than being embarrased like before with Keegan Sven Capello etc.

Anyway my point (again)...roy is trying to change the way we play, he couldve kept our 'style' the same as before and gone further but he is starting to change it. For me that is a good thing. Not for you it seems as youo want him sacked. IMO any manager trying to alter how england play will have come across the same problems, and got beat,i just think it is essential we do change otherwise our story will be the same in every WC ever. And in order to change we have to deal with bad beats like this.

    Its all very well ch

And would you consider euro'88 not to be an epic fail?
the Italy game is the only good performance in a competitive game I can recall in hodgson's entire tenure as England manager. and we still lost.

I don't consider that a good record, one where we've improved or one that could suggest improvement in the future.

I too thought we may be seeing an improvement in style after the Italy game and then we get another sub standard performance against Uruguay. the Italy game was more than likely a flash in the pan.

According to most, Rooney is world class and should even play darts for us as well.

I don't really buy into this our players are rubbish thing.. Granted not as good as they think they are but certainly not pants as suggested.

I think England need a good coach as much as a manager.

We all are in agreement that SmC is an excellent coach, I think if he partners a suitable manager in future he can play a pivotal like Don Howe did for Robson
