Dear god, the second I start going to football to see hard work you can shoot me in the head. If thats what you go to the Vale for you might as well walk into the factory down the road and start singing at the toilet makers.

I'd much rather see talent, ability and excitement.

It's OK though, you can one day tell the grandkids that you saw some really hardworking players go on and not play for England.

To put all of this into perspective, the latest sad news from Radio Stoke this afternoon is devastating for Byron today. His brother was found dead last night, shortly after Byron signed for the Vale. Our thoughts must now be with the lad who served us well for 7 years at first team level. There are more important things in life than football. RIP Byron's brother.

Well said. Finally some common sense, unlike some immature idiots on Twiiter.

Horrible news about his brother but Byron simply has to expect stick and he will receive plenty at Gresty Road. He's been messing the Alex around for the last 2-3 years now and despite playing well for roughly 3 games per season, he clearly showed little interest in lining up for us. Good riddance to him. Before anybody decides to label me, this is a matter of opinion and is based upon feeling let down and not immaturity.

Why has Byron messed the Alex around for 2-3 years. He is a football player and football is just his career, I don't know if he is an actual Alex fan but unlike a fan he is only concerned with his career be it in winning trophies or providing financial security for himself and his family.

Take a step back from being a fan and put yourself in a players position and think about your career and financial planning.

    You are offered two deals

1 year deal worth say £1k per year brining in £52k a year plus any bonuses.

2 year deal worth the same in wages but having the security of a 2 year deal and not having to worry about getting a new contract this time next year.

Now which one would you take?

If that was me, I would take the 2 year deal. Would you take the 1 year deal.

Even if the Vale offered more money what is wrong with that? If you had a competitor offer you a bigger wage than the one you are currently offered by your current employers would you not take it?

    All the unions in

Being an almost fully qualified accountant, I don't need to be told the difference between the proceeds of a 1 year deal compared to that of a 2 year deal.

My real gripe is more around the fact that since a very young boy, the Alex have invested a lot of money in developing Byron and part of "the deal" is that when an established player leaves, we recoup at least a small percentage of those costs. Byron has not only left us for nothing and signed for our fiercest rivals but he has shown no passion or pride in an Alex shirt for the last 2-3 years. That is a triple slap in the face.

Port Vale like players that get stuck in and don't duck (no pun) out of challenges. I don't see Byron fitting in with their philosophy.

Despite a few people wishing him well, I truly believe that the majority of Alex supporters are just as angry and let down as I am, hence the stick. If things have been said about his brother then that is not acceptable but any other stick he receives either online or at

Well I'm not. So many wanted him to leave, now it is to Vale its suddenly an issue. Vale was a no-brainer for him. His team, local and more cash and longer deal - easy choice. We didn't play him, they will. We'll struggle, they won't. For all of those reasons it is a very good move. Thickie Adams likes to play with wingers, Vale Park is wide and Pope will love the crosses. Byron will be their most skillfull player, but we didn't appreciate him.

Vale are a very different club to us in terms of financial management and recruitment, doesn't mean we're "better" and the league table will show we're not. It is about winning and league positions at the end of the day. Until the day Vale go bust again, we have to accept they are bigger and better. Byron saw that.

I agree with most of that (although in the main, Byron was played hence how he played just short of 300 games) but I think one point is missed by everybody.

    Byron's strength is hi

He can put low balls in for Nile Ranger then as we are signing him on Monday.

With Pope and Ranger up front and Moore/Lines in midfield, we are going to cause some serious headaches for teams this season.

RIP to Bryon's brother. Disappointed he has left us to join our local rivals, but somethings are bigger than football.
