    re: Ched and Sheffield United.

There was an interesting take on this from a journo on Sky this morning that suggested that, as his sentence is 5 years and that, therefore, he is only out on license, there is a straightforward compromise position that says he plays only when he has completed his sentence, i.e. 5 years.

Either way it is a mess which the football authorities (FA, PL, Football League and PFA) knew would come 2 years ago and did nothing to anticipate and legislate for. There had already been unrest about Hughes, King and McCormick (more so in his case because a young family were involved) and they chose to ignore this. As a result, Sheffield Utd have, to some extent, been hung out to dry by their lack of action and any other club that might elect to offer him a contract would be in a similar position.

To be fair, Hughes did show remorse for his crime, did a lot of charity work which started in prison for a children's hospice and did a hell of a lot in the community for teams he played for. I totally understand the grief he gets from away fans, but having seen him play for us, and how he was around young fans, you do get to see a different side to things. That's why he was loved by both notts and vale fans.

I suspect Hughes is one of those players like Joey Barton and Luke Rodgers - you love them when they play for you, hate them when they are on the other side!

Hughes played against us for several clubs and was always a niggly wind up merchant; he was probably the same against the Vale!! I know Rodgers was just that both for and against the Reds!!

He took no responsibility for the death of the wife, nor for the third person who can no longer walk unaided.

Wrong, her own "friends" and fellow townspeople let her be known to all and sundry not Ched Evans or his entourage. And most of them have no nice things to say about her either.
There's many facts that you have wrong and another is that Ched Evans has not re-joined Sheffield United he has asked via the PFA if we could let him use our facilities to get himself fit. The PFA then asked us

A cogent argument, but not one that holds too much water I believe (and I think that Evans has 'served his time' and should be allowed to resume his career somewhere).

I accept that SU paid a considerable sum of money for his transfer but they would surely have had the option to cancel his contract when he was convicted as he was not able to fulfil his side of the bargain, as it were; that would have saved the club a considerable sum over 2.5 years.

Secondly, there is nothing to say that, had he not been convicted, the player would have let his contract run to its natural conclusion and then moved on, without any transfer fee payable to SU - something we have experienced over recent years with players and, whilst annoying and potentially costly, it is not illegal and used as a bargaining tool by unscrupulous agents.

Mr McCabe and his colleagues will have been aware of the risks involved in keeping Evans under contract; although they might have been surprised at the level of public c

Hughes is now non-league with Forest Green Rovers, after many years of 'controversy'; McCormick started back at Truro City (non-league) and there was quite a furore when he rejoined Plymouth and was made captain.

Evans is a different case, I believe. He is in dispute with British law as he states that the 12-man jury were wrong and he is innocent. But he is not an 'alleged' rapist, he is a rapist, he was found guilty. That can be rescinded, but not by him.
The apology argument is not that he should apologised for raping the drunk girl; it is that he should apologise for having intercourse with her when she was drunk and incapable - a fact that is not disputed.
Please. Don't watch Evans's own videos on his own web site - he is bound to only publicise stuff that makes him look good.
What will be on trial is the definition of rape, and if his act is considered not to be rape then the law will have to be changed. God help any young woman who has a bit too much to drink. Rape is not a ***
