It really isn't as clear-cut as that Jardi.

If Baird had been scoring regularly and performing well, then maybe - just maybe - this argument might have some credibility.

However, he performed poorly, scored the odd goal and had a huffy, schoolboy attitude because he wasn't first pick.

"However, if we'd then been able to bring Baird on par exemple, Hibs would have been in trouble. "

Jardi, he never caused any other team trouble when brought on so I think it highly unlikely he would have caused the solid Hibs backline any problems - alas, we will never know !

Is Michael Paton not of sufficient quality to be in our squad and introduced as a sub ?

I know there are some who react badly to defeat and I think this has been magnified by the fact that Falkirk pulled off a fine win and moved above us.

They could have done so last week but we held on bravely for a point and I don't recall all this negativity and clamour for a Baird replacement at that time.

    Perhaps some were just desper

We have two strikers in the top five goal scorers in the Championship and three players in the top twelve, which isn't a bad record. I'd suggest there is a more pressing need to strengthen the mid-field where we simply don't have enough real quality even taking account of players coming back from injury.

Big lanky Colin Nish has just left Dumbarton but don't really know if Queens would want him tbh.
Also who was Jack Dickinsond in the team sheet on Saturday amongst the QOS substitutes.

Nithvalley, a quality post and one that under normal circumstance I would completely agree with.

However, if we are serious about staking a claim for the play offs then we cannot simply meekly accept what has happened this month, as though it were fait accompli.

Half the Queens players looked knackered on Saturday, while Hibs got stronger as the match wore on. Is there also a problem there? where was the sports scientist on Saturday? why was there no structured half time training with the subs?

Regardless, one of the main reasons I believe that Queens were so good pre the January window was that we had strength in depth. Kerr may well have been the biggest moron in the UK, but he was undoubtedly the most talented player in the division when on song. Equally, Baird was a lazy prat at times, but he could score goals, or if not he created good runs off the ball and was in a position to score goals, which is what we are needing right now.

Derek Lyle is not fit enough to play for 9

That's the problem now, - we simply don't have a quality sub to cause problems for other teams in the last 20 - 30 minutes.

Saturday was a prime example; Lyle and Gavin ran their socks off and there was simply nothing left in the tank for the last half hour. (No disrespect to Gav or Del - they gave 100%)However, if we'd then been able to bring Baird on par exemple, Hibs would have been in trouble.

Baird has left the club, but we have 5 days left to fill his shoes and if we can then we have a chance of getting to the play-offs.

If we don't the season is over, - it is as simple as that.

I don't know what game you were watching but didn't even realise Lyle was playing till he was subbed! He was anonymous on Saturday (imo)
He is best as a impact player. I think we can all agree he struggles with a 90 now.

The disappointing thing is we h

I classify the playing staff into 4 categories :-

    - young progressive players who have a market value and whom we are desperate to keep but who are unlikely to sign long term deals
    - excellent dependable professionals who do not have a market value but who are extremely valuable to us and would be very difficult to replace
    - young players who have not proved themselves but who offer untapped potential
    - squad members who have perhaps been injured or who have been struggling to be first pick regulars

The first category is a very difficult one - these players know that there are substantially better terms out there and the only way to protect the club is secure them on longer deals before they have fully delivered ...i.e take a chance at an early stage like Hamilton do.

Second category should be one that we should not lose any players that we want to keep. We have just lost two out of this category and that disappoints me. Other key players in this category that I would want to secu

Don't understand why we have not signed at least one more player to make the squad stronger.financially we should be doing ok this year, about 50k a difference from finishing 4th/5th.

We have more than 5 days to sign a striker.
My understanding of the rules is that a player can be signed at any time
if he is a free agent and has left his previous club before the end of the window.
For instance, Queens signed Mark Kerr last season, a week after the window closed.

Looks like for the first time in months we will have a full squad to pick from this weekend if the game goes ahead as McKenna playing for reserves this afternoon along with Burns. Fowler also naming himself on the bench.

That's great that we now have a full squad once again, although with respect none of thes are proven goal scorers.

I remember a certain Ian Russell commenting live on Alba after the Raith game that the gaffer did the team a favour by not playing himself!

The window is made available for teams to strengthen their squads. Queens have not done so
