I would suggest getting former players to the games to do the half-time draw.
ICF, as I mentioned in an earlier post you are absolutely correct.
To counter that, we must try to regenerate the support, - and that can only be done by nurturing the youth of today.
It certainly will not be easy with the number of counter attractions on the table, - or should I say tablet.
I would suggest getting former players to the games to do the half-time draw.
Thanks for your comments JRS. Having been working on the stats for the Centenary book, there are some really poor attendances in the not too distant past, but then again, it is not to long ago that the club looked at 2,000 as being the 'break even' figure. It is difficult to attract youngsters, but they are out there, as I have a few on the two stadium/museum tours that I have arranged for this Friday afternoon.
We’ve a midweek fixture against Falkirk this Tuesday. Dread to think what the crowd will be if we can only get just over 1150 on a beautiful sunny Spring day
Get out and support your club folks
I think something that would benefit the smaller teams like ourselves would be the relaxing of alcohol in the grounds. You might find a few more coming along with some friends who aren't really interested in Queens but see it more as a good opportunity to socialise and have a swig before they head on into town/elsewhere. They might even enjoy themselves and keep coming back.
It is a topic that has a number of twists and turns when it is discussed. Even it was for games the police consider manageable so attendances under 5,000 say.
Interesting point and I have often wondered why the alcohol ban is in place for football but not other sports the most obvious being rugby where you often see supporters drinking while watching the game. Why the difference in trust by the authorities between the types of people going to these different sports? The ban was brought into football during the dark days when violence was a fairly regular occurrence and this even happened at Palmerston albeit only when the bigger better supported teams visited bringing thugs with them only for our supporters to react against them. I think that it would be an incentive to supporters for some sort of relaxation on drinking at games if they can demonstrate reasonable behaviour on the warning that if you transgress it will be immediately reimposed. Time to trust the footballing public and see how they react to more civilised rules and regulations to judge if they have learnt the harsh lessons from the past.
No way they will allow alcohol into football. Would be a great thing for a team like ourselves and a chance for like minded Queens fans to have a beer together. The alcohol ban has stood since 1980 , in the immediate aftermath of the old firm SC final riot and they won't overturn it.
I was at the 1980 cup final riot et al with it being my first and last Old Firm game. I was even chased after the game by supposedly the fans of the team I was there to see at that game. Bottles rained down on their own fans and we had the police horses on the pitch with the long baton being used to crack a few heads however I was long gone before it did get to that.
