I think it should be apparent to everyone exactly what Rotherham United is currently about. It’s a club that is being run in a manner that allows it to run up losses only to a level that the owners are willing and able to sustain. In other words, we are living within the means of its ownership.
I can understand why supporters would like things to be different and for vast sums to be spent to allow the club to compete in the top half of the Championship rather than the bottom. What I don’t understand is why – given the history of the club in the last twenty years or so – anyone would want the club to become financially unstable to allow that to happen. Is there something in the water at Rotherham that causes a loss of memory? Do you not remember points deductions, bucket collections and the waiting to see if the club would be wound up?
Kempo asks if what we are getting is value for money. I would say that it undoubtedly is. Reasonably priced tickets to see Championship football in a modern ground with no fear of going bust and with at least a fighting chance of staying up.
Nobody has to follow Rotherham if they don’t want to. If you want to follow a club where money to buy success is no object, Manchester is not so far away. Just remember that you will get cross there if you don’t win every week.
