Jacket left for a number of reasons most notably that his wife didn't like living in the north. The club set them up in Bawtry which is a very nice place to live but the pressure from his wife coupled with the fact that the job was tougher than he thought made him leave. We all make decisions in our lives every day based on pros and cons and that is exactly what Jacket did. Evans was sacked not because of one single thing but at a tipping point where the hassle of keeping him at the football club outweighed the advantages of having him there. He had pissed off a large percentage of the staff and was causing friction at the club.
I suspect most of the questions we wish to ask don't have a single answer but are complicated and I think Grumpy's will be the same. Owning the football club certainly has its advantages for Tony, leaving aside the recent visit to the palace, the club satisfies Tony's ego as he is certainly a local personality making regular media appearances. His ownership also increases the network of his businesses. My opinion is that he values all the benefits of being the owner at a certain level and he is happy to provide that level in funding for the football club. If that is £2m a year or £3m a year, he is happy to do it but it certainly isn't £10-£15m a year that would be needed to sustain a mid ranking championship club as that would jeopardise his family's legacy.
Fantastic post and insights. While not really my main concern at the minute, I had wondered about the departures of Evans and Jacket.

    Does it?

Most of our sponsors seem to be his neighbours on Barbot Hall Industrial Estate

It was Millers05 who divorced the club from its ground.

Moot point. The deal was that the Booths kept the ground in exchange for clearing the clubs debts (in essence its overdraft). I went to the first RUST meeting at which the Millers05 financial guy (John Harrison? Could have the name wrong), and he said that the ground was not for sale. His statement was, and its always stuck in my mind, "the Booths have an almost fetish like obsession with owning land".

It was Millers05 that sold the ground so relinquishing ownership from the club. The simple fact was they didnt have the money for the takeover and needed Booths financial help to complete the deal. They sold the ground to clear the £3m debt .

I will see if I can find the 05 prospectus where they announced the sale of the ground and low rent as a great deal for the club.

That said we can both spin the key motives whichever way we want.

Quote from article "The £3m club debt has been erased and the new board have negotiated a sale-and-lease-back deal for their Millmoor ground, with plans in the pipeline to build a new stand by December 2005."

Miller05 decisions relating to the ground forced Stewarts hand to move us out of Millmoor and so requiring him to build the new ground.

First , the sale of the ground. Second, the aborted redevelopment of the main stand redending the ground unusable.

this is why in reality it's not a good idea for fans to buy a club.
Great idea in principle but they invariably don't have long term sustainable funds just to even keep it going never mind investing.

I'm not sure then likes of the Beckett family or Ron Hull would be able to move us on any better than Tone. They,re wealthy but there,s a limit before they start kissing away their grandchildren, s inheritance.

Besides which surely a benefactor can only provide so much investment in players before the club falls foul of the fair play rules.
I know there are ways around it like owner sponsorship but As someone has said above we don't have the fanbase.
