I really hope i dont have to come back the this thread!
Anyone actually at the game and can give us an account of how everyone played?
It seems like a lucid dream going to the likes of Upton park for a pre season friendly and giving the hosts a good run around.
My head's been a shed (no pun intended) since the playoffs.
Trying to rationalise how I feel now. Greatest need is to get back to top league. Greatest concern is that we might not.
Realistic expectation is that we will give it a good go alongside a good handful of other clubs trying to do the same.
Is it achievable? Of course. The outcome will be decided over the 36 league games. Let's back the team all the way through this campaign. The early season friendlies and the ridiculous Betfred group games mean nothing.
Did you notice that they beat Hearts today? Hearts are a top six Premiership club. I think perhaps East Fife happen to have a decent team at then moment.
Am I saying it's acceptable we got beat by them at home? No, I was gutted on Tuesday. However, I think some credit needs to go to them as opposed to all the blame being that we are ****e.
Went to game yesterday my opinion from what I saw
First half - industrious and played some good football. Cammy Smith worked hard and some good link play with Appere and others. Easily a starter for me, rather than Clark in that role. Butcher and Frans did fine.
2nd Half - After subs reverted to what has been documented on here so frequently, players out of position. Hence performance dipped, Shrews didn't have to work too hard. Shankland having to come too deep, Clark is clearly a penalty box player. Both missed a couple of sitters within a minute of each other. Stanton whom I like and has ability but not shown enough, is too far back.
King overall a workman like performance but nothing remarkable.
Best player on the park, who knew where to be at the right time, Steve Morrison for them, showed what 2 up front could do. Won most things that came his way.
All in all not the best result, game of two halves. United support excellent and greeted the team at the end like heroes, had it been a league game, it would have been boos etc.
Was there too. Agree that Cammy Smith looked good in his preferred role and could definitely make a difference if starting there regularly. Played a 4-4-1-1 changing to 4-4-2.
Missed 2 sitters near the end and rattled the crossbar in the first half.
A bit of perspective, Aston Villa only managed a 1-0 victory against them last week.
I’m still staying confident for next week, but would really like to see Smith sitting off Shankland.
Sounds like we should be giving Cammy Smith a chance next week.
Such a shame he’s not been in preferred position since he arrived!
