Where do the Chinese students get all the money from. The local University of Washington here in Seattle has $15K tuition fees for in state students and $50K for out of state students and still half of the 40,000 are Chinese.

This statistic might help account for it CAM

There are now 100 million Chinese people among the world's wealthiest 10% compared to 99 million Americans.

While the top Chinese universities are generally well regarded, there aren't that many of them in relation to the size of the population and they are extremely academic. Given this limitation and the increasingly prevalent view that a western education will give them an added value, it's understandable that those with money will pay.

As I said in my other post, pandemics are a ***** part of the circle of life in the natural world and various species go through them regularly. Humanity has not faced a pandemic of global proportions since the Spanish flu of 1918 so we are certainly overdue for one although that does not mean for a second that this is definitely it. Many of us will be immune to this flu although we have no way of knowing, significantly more of us will be strong enough to fight it off. Our final safeguard is our imperfect but fairly advanced health system which should keep the mortality rate of this or any future pandemic to a much lower rate than less developed nations and although it is stretched given its current workload, extra resources could be achieved by reducing and even cancelling non life threatening operations etc.

For those interested - 1/2 price pick n mix starts in Wilko today. With kids at school the bogey quotient will be fairly low (still probably best advised to go for the higher choices which the pre-schoolers can't reach) So, get down to Wilko today and make a start on that type 2 diabetes.
