This proposal is just an opening gambit that they probably knew would get knocked back.

They’ll get something through that suits them. Then they’ll be back and in 5 or so years time they’ll have things entirely their own way and football won’t be worth bothering with as a competitive sport as 6 or so teams will control everything. European competition will be expanded at the expense of a reduced Premier League.

I’m sure there’s a generation or two who have been brainwashed in to thinking football never existed before the Premier League. I’d think there’s a big opportunity to ditch the so called ‘Big 6’ and get back to the traditions of the game so many fell in love with. The wages will need a massive recalibration but so be it. Our forwards can always clean windows for a living if they can’t exists on £10k a week rather than 50k. The sooner the Big 6 **** off and we get back to proper competition the better

The NFL is completely different to our football though.

The professional game is fed by the collegiate system and teams get their players through the draft system whereby the worst teams get the first pick of the best players each year.

There’s also a salary cap of around $175m for the 53 man roster.

The other thing to remember is that a lot of these teams represent their state which in turn can often be bigger than England in size so there’s no real need for additional teams.

The average “grunt” player in the NFL earns less than a Championship established player and is on the sort of money paid in League One.

The NFL system is actually much fairer and more equitable than the EPL.
