The Sheffield post code covers all S. Yorks except Donny who have their own postcode and actually takes in Grimsby and Gainborough, far reaching indeed. A lot of places on the fringes of our boundary use the "Sheffield" in their address, with the "S"postcode to promote themselves part of a bigger city. Places like Butterfly house and Aston Hall Hotel...etc.
The boundary near Waverley is the old Railway line what used to go under the Parkway near to Handworth. Some people say " built on the border".....it's not a No Mans Land, 100yds wide...........
Rotherham along with West Bromich are the 2 largest towns without their own postcodes.
Maybe RMBC should take more of a stance with the companies who claim Sheffield status whilst paying Rotherham rates.

Wentworth Woodhouse? Barnsley or Rotherham?

Agree with earlier post by Grumps by the way. My dad was a steel worker as well and always said all the best quality steel was made in Rotherham in spite of the deedars claiming their steel was best...we all know the best thing about dee dar land is the A630 out of it!

Baarnsley phone prefix and think it may be barnsley postal code. I'm pretty sure they used to lay claim to Wentworth as well. Not sure you can say nowhere near Baarnsley. Elsecar definitely is and is only a mile or 2 down road from there.

I'll tell you where it gets interesting:. The Dearne towns. Goldthorpe, Thurnscoe, Bolton on Dearne all have Rotherham postal addresses and std codes yet all sit within the Barnsley borough.

The border runs along Knoll Beck but some of it is in Rotherham and some in Barnsley.
