For how long has that sort of contract arrangement been possible? It makes stringing a club along and ditching them at the last minute seem OK!
No idea, AC but that seems to be the way it is. Understandable rules I suppose to give the player a little longer to sort his future out.

Nonetheless, The News understands that interest remains strong in a player who has registered 46 goals in 100 appearances since arriving at Meadow Lane in August 2019.

Wootton is out of contract in the summer, with Magpies boss Ian Burchnall yesterday revealing talks over a renewal have still to take place.

Should they be unable to tie down their leading scorer, it could prompt the National League club to cash in on the ex-S****horpe man in January.

Alternatively, Pompey could opt for a pre-contract agreement and get him for free at the season’s end.

Regardless, the 6ft 2in Wootton offers target man capabilities that Cowley has long yearned for.

    .
And if Notts had an offer from Team Y for say 125,000 and Wootton doesn't want to go, there would be nothing we could do and we just have to allow him to sit out the last 6 months of his contract?

I think a few of our player’s agents have been busy lately feeding ‘interest’ from other clubs to various local journalists.

My own opinion is that Wootton is no more a league 1 striker than I am, but if he gets a move to Pompey in January then good luck to him.

Pompey, Wednesday and Sunderland scouts spotted in the Broken Wheelbarrow checking on holding player BigFatPie (holding pint lager, pie and burger)

I guess this will show us the ambition of the owners. If he leaves in January while we're in the play offs then I guess promotion isn't the ambition.

I do fully expect most if not all players who's contracts end at the end of the season to move on to pastures new though if we fail to get promoted yet again.

A FEW fans are being a bit sick slating Sam because IB keeps him on the bench, it as if they're being denied the chance to kill him for 5-10 minute cameos so roast him for not even getting on!
I thought the mockery on Notts County Talk last night was out of order. He's a Notts player who can't get into the team at the moment, that's all, so rein in the digs and save them for our competition.
Apologies AntiClough if you think I was mocking Sam.My point was and is he's a big lad with the potential to play centre forward. He seems to have the physique of a player that is wasted on the wing.
I'm sure with some fine tuneing, his skill set and physique could be adopted to suit that of a centre forward, now whether good or bad we wont know unless
Add to that some coaching regards positional sence and runs he might make an half decent centre forward.?
I wouldnt expect him to be a goal machine but might make a useful impact upfront.Hes on our books and so far it seems the manager doesnt want to employ him as a winger.
Hes tall big strong has a shot on him and if I remember correctly could run with the ball.
I think it's a shame we gave a player in our squad that is currently not being used and might make it into the team via a different position....if such a transition worked then it's a win win situation if it doesnt we haven't lost anything.
Fingers crossed sam comes good full stop on the wing or upfront....

No, never thought that Pedro, seems to be a thing with younger fans - comes up on here, Magpie Circle and now NC Talk...

He's been here 1 year 3mths and hasn't had a fair shot at showing what he can do. I think in football if you're a nice guy, laid-back, easy going, and English isn't your 1st language, a lack of gravitas can hold you back in a football squad where you have big characters vying for the coaches/media/fans' attention. This can lead to a squandering of talent. We know this happened with Ruben. Hear how the B'Wood manager called him the most talented player in the NL? Well that was true 13 months ago, but it didn't stop coaches not picking him for 17 out of our 42 league games last season!
I have no doubt at all that something like that is happening with Elisha Sam. Can't deny it works both ways though, when you're given the chance, however limited, you HAVE TO take it.

I actually really like Sam and he has provided us with some really good moments during his time at Notts. His problem appears to be consistency and often struggling to read the game. Head down bearing in on goal you'll always fancy him to score. Unfortunately we have a manager who goes by the mantra defend from the front attack from the back. Halifax's winning goal when they came from 2-0 down with 10 men was a prime example. Their player who created the chance was allowed to literally walk past Sam without any challenge, it almost looked like Sam wasn't sure what he was supposed to do. It's the one area of his game I feel he needs to work on, unfortunately other than at training he's not really getting the chance to improve by playing games.

This. Sam’s a decent footballer, skilful and can finish. But he’s grown up in leagues where there’s generally a different style of play to our one, which is all about intensity and pace. He’s struggled to come to terms with that IMO, and not done what Ruben has and adapted his game to become effective in this environment.

Whether he could do given more of a chance is a sort of pointless circular argument, because from his limited chances he’s never really looked like doing it.
