There is but this last week it seems to be across many other areas, for example here we're seeing a big uptick in work places and schools. I even 'relapsed' myself last weekend and drove to Portland to watch the MLS Cup final amongst 25,000+ others (vaccination proof required). Wore a mask all game but was 'showered' with who knows what (hopefully it was just beer) when the crowd went doolally when Portland equalised with the last kick of the game (went on to lose on penalties AET). I've not been feeling too chipper this week (sore throat, headache etc.) but as I live in a world of self isolation anyway not much point in getting tested.
The thing is Grist that this virus thrives in the cold weather, and the deaths and hospitalizations, whilst they are rising, seem significantly lower than January when we were just starting with the vaccination programme, so it would appear that the vaccine is working.
The numbers are always going to go up in the winter months with covid, and if we are going to keep postponing matches because of it then maybe we need to either learn to live with it and if players who have it feel fit enough to play, then let them play, or change the playing season from maybe the beginning of march through to the end of November, and cut out Decenber, January and February which would be considered the viruses best months, just a thought.
Cheers cayton, I forgot to mention that yesterday morning, because I was feeling fine and before I got my confirmation that my PCR test was positive, I took another lateral flow test that showed up as negative, so considering I was feeling ok, I thought my PCR test would probably come back negative, but I was wrong 😫. It was stated on the radio yesterday (LBC) that the EFL and EPL have released their official statistics from the vaccine status of all their registered players. The results aren't good - on the assumption that you believe, as I do, that vaccines are of benefit (individually and to society as a whole).
Officially 75% of players are jabbed, OR HAVE STATED AN INTENTION TO GET JABBED. Note the "intention" bit.
25% have no intention of getting jabbed. End of.
I believe there IS an issue pertinent to professional footballers. Indeed to professional sports people in general (we saw it in tennis). It smacks of "I'm young, incredibly fit, and healthy, sod the virus" without regard for them potentially acting as a vector for transmission. I accept that vaccination doesn't prevent transmission but the data clearly shows that it does reduce it significantly.
