Are there positives - from what I heard, Allison pulled off some good saves and kept Liverpool in the match. We did create some chances. We kept the second best team in the league down to 1 goal. Some were predicting 4! A draw would have been a bonus point.
Our recruitment is looking better with Roberts, Collins, Cornet and WW coming in.
Yes we go down this year, but Norwich and WBA have both shown that one does need billions to get promoted.
The team needs rebuilding with the ones passed their best moved on. Have we really missed Chris Wood? The Geordies are not seeing much return on their £25 million to date. We need to use our money wisely - reduce the wages bill by moving on the older, higher paid players, use those savings, plus the parachute payments to identify foreign players with more technical ability
"........Have we really missed Chris Wood? The Geordies are not seeing much return on their £25 million to date.........."
He has played all four games since he moved, completed each one, they have scored 6 and conceded 2 and picked up 10 points.
The Toon fans will moan about him, just as our fans did, however, he is a part of a team that is working hard and in just 4 games he has helped them achieve just 1 less point than we achieved in his 17 games for us. He is an integral part of a team that has now won 3 consecutive games. That's football!
I agree DD. I am not 100% convinced by SD and the team. Klopp was fulsome in his praise of SD. Anyone sitting in second with riches at their disposal can be generous in their place.
I am a believer in continuity. However, many on here have questioned the team set up, the loyalty to certain players and the inability to change things on the pitch.
I have no idea who would be a suitable replacement, however I do think that we need someone who is not wedded to 4-4-2 and appreciates the role of midfield in the current game when we start again in the Championship.
Is he integral? From what I have read, he is still offside and, by way of example, missed a sitter today. It sounds like Trippier (who supposedly swore his allegiance to Burnley, with his special relationship with SD and the club) that has made a massive difference. All credit to Eddie Howe for spending £93 million well (£68 million excluding Wood) actually.
How much did we spend? Please remind me.
Swiss, your question was !Have we really missed Chris Wood?" You then stated that "The Geordies are not seeing much return on their 25 million to date ......"
It matters not a jot how much they spent or how much we spent. I just pointed out the fact that, since he started for Newcastle they have picked up 10 points and he has played every minute. He may have missed chances, however, have they been critical? No, because they have won the last three games and, as I have said many times, you only miss chances if you are in a position to score.
In the 19 games prior to Chris Wood moving, Newcastle had managed 11 points. Since he went there they have played 4 and gained 10 points, therefore, I would argue that, although he may not be getting the goals, he has every much been a part of a team which is picking up points and he was good in the defensive half as usual.
Since he left, we have played 4 matches and picked up 3 points.
As I said, that's football, and players will go where they can get the most money there is no player loyalty to clubs these days, that was all in a bygone era.

It DOES matter how much money Eddie has spent. Wood is only 1 player out of a squad that is going in the right direction ,and moving away from the danger zone. As you correctly point out, he is part of a team. So on that basis, it’s obviously a collective thing, and his contribution is the same as his other team mates. From what I saw today, he’s lucky to be part of that team.If we had the opportunity to spend not far off £100m, it’s my guess we’d be above Wood and his team mates and clear of the relegation zone.Unfortunately, we’re not.
I think that guy that won promotion for Burnley in 2016 might just fit the bill. Top of the league, top scorers, lost only 5 out of 46 games all season, playing attractive, very effective, attacking football. Of course we'd have to ensure he had the right players, like he had back then, not the mostly aging journeymen our current manager has to work with. Any road, it could be worth tapping him up, I think he might be available.
Just to be specific mon ami, to which "aging journeymen" do you refer?
