It’s bonkers. Palmer who has been playing that role has been more than adequate at it. The issues Notts have defensively is in front of him. The likes of Ruben, Eli, Roberts and Wootton. We aren’t capable of defending from the front.
I commented about the Chesterfield fullback breezing past Eli on a number of occasions which in turn pulled Notts defensive players out of position. It’s like a house of cards once one player doesn’t do his job properly. Having 4 defensive liabilities really is a problem.

Their player of the season last year signed for Championship Blackpool in the summer.

I don’t keep flogging the idea. I posted on this thread originally. You then commented on a separate thread, I then responded. Move on chap, I have.

We have enough midfielders, we need a striker who can convert the chances that we create..

It’s not bonkers. Bonkers would be playing Wootton in goal or Slocombe in midfield. At no point have I suggested replacing Palmer.

In terms of Ruben, I actually think he works incredibly hard at defending from the front and he tracks back. Wootton also does more than his fair share.

I agree that we don’t kill teams off, and have been sloppy at times in front of goal, but the main problem is in our own penalty area.
Our goals scored tally this season could justify us being top of the league. The reason we aren’t is because our goals conceded is akin to mid table.

The issues of the last few games and more have been converting chances. The longer a team is in a game they don’t expect to be due to us missing chances they start to think it might be their day and grow in confidence and there the problem starts.

I think our inability to grind a 1-0 out is a bigger problem. Very few clean sheets this season, needing to score at least two to win each week is asking too much over a season.

I agree we’ve had several games of late where that has been the case. But whatever the reason, our problem is the amount we’ve conceded. Our goals scored column is very healthy, and our ‘big 3’ at the attacking end of the pitch are all in double figures.
