As a general question, does anyone else ever wonder why football, as a sport, attracts the morons and brain dead? I don't just mean spectators at professional football. My two boys play at the weekends and some of the parents and 'managers' are disgraceful in the way they behave.
I manage an U11’s team and I totally agree.
My players are not allowed to question the ref and neither am I. They all go and thank him after every game and congratulate the opposition regardless of how the games gone. The priority of my team is to work hard and enjoy it. Winning is hopefully the result of that. I don’t care if they make mistakes as long as they’re honest and they’re putting in the effort. Unfortunately that isn’t the norm. I’ve nearly come to blows with opposition managers because they’re berating their own players and a 15 year old ref. And then there’s the parents. Some of them are an absolute disgrace. Berating refs and players. That bad attitude then feeds into these kids.
More often than not if we play a team with bad parents/coaches, then the players have the same bad attitude. Cheat, foul, argue, basically anything to win. It’s inherent in the game from the moment they start playing at 7 years of age.
So to go to a game and hurl abuse at anyone/everyone is totally acceptable. So why not run on the pitch and abuse/assault the opposition?
It’s probably why I’m quite vocal on here about supporting and encouraging Notts.
Negativity towards someone on a football pitch contributes nothing, regardless of age.

That's what you would get, yes.

Just improving the tone of public discourse, setting a better lead and example would probably be more helpful.

I think we just want players to be safe in the short-term. You can't do your job and then be attacked at the end of your shift. It is alarming because it's popped up in a few places now (so is worth analysing) but hopefully it's something that can be nipped in the bud quickly...

Nobody on the pitch for play-off semis is a no brainer

The left's solution to calming things down was for the police to take the knee and to paint police cars in rainbow colours. So perhaps if we listen to those people more we might see stewards being trained to wander in-between pitch invaders doing some sort of performative lesbian dance.

This is football's problem and I think the "solution" will best come from within. I put solution in quotes because, realistically, we're probably looking at trying to keep a lid on it as best it can as society at large goes through the **** show that's coming.

I really don't see what lesbians, knees and rainbows have to do with a bloke for Ilkeston head-butting a former Forest player or nasty mob behaviour at Port Vale.

I think we've firmly entered the realm of fantasy and fantasists there. But the Government of a nation 13 years into its tenure seems pretty real to me and has to carry some responsibility for the society we find ourselves in.

Are you sure it's not the entertainment industry's problem

No I'm not. Altamont 1969 and Isle of Wight 1970 spring to mind. Always the potential for trouble with large crowds when tensions are high.

Oh, I didn't know about that, "three deaths, 1,200 admissions to onsite medical facilities, 44 arrests, and numerous accounts of ***ual assault."

That would even be a bit much for a Leeds v Millwall play off final with all of the police and stewards being given the wrong date and turning up a day late.
