Exactly, many have been serial failers as well.
To be fair I'd be very worried if any manager/coach couldn't get the squad we had into a play off place though. We just need someone who can take what we have and make them perform away from home. Hopefully this is the guy.

All this 'inexperienced PE teacher experiment' chat is crazy talk. The man proved his coaching abilities many times over, improving players and providing modern, attractive football and ultimately got headhunted to a presumably far better paid job two levels higher. Hard to believe some on here even now think he was no good.
Anyhow, now we have a new man from a fairly similar mould so here's hoping he proves to be equally skilled but gets us promoted.

How many people had heard of Warnock before he joined. An argument could be said for Sirrel as well, he didn't really pull up any trees for Brentford before he came to Notts
I'm underwhelmed , more perhaps due to building expectation from the many names bandied about. However I will be 100% behind him and now the Reedtz need to back him all the way with some canny and exciting signings as we are still very threadbare. If we make the right choices on the pitch we have every opportunity of going up. We must however head for automatic as we have discovered the playoffs remain a huge lottery. COYP

Nothing stupid about it at all. My point isn't about whether new guy is any better than old guy. My point is what is it that is motivating the owners. They aren't Notts' supporters by birth or residency. Obviously we are all grateful they are providing stability etc., etc., etc. So they are spending lots of money for what purpose? Can't really be investment. Just for fun? Burch was a weird choice. If anything Williams is weirder. It's like, let's just see what happens if we do this. No matter what people say, it isn't a routine appointment proved by, like Burch, absolutely nobody on here even mentioned him as a possible contender.
But of course I hope he does well. Time will tell, as I said.
Most owners dont come from the City/Town they have bought.
They obviously like the game and took a gamble on us im not sure why you'd have to ask them.
My only guess is they bought us as a NL club and perhaps think they could in the medium / long term get us to L1.
It isnt a routine appointment I agree but there is no right/wrong choices.
Look at Forest, Hughton has an outstanding record in the championship but it didnt work out they took a chance on Cooper & it worked.
Its football nobody can say what will happen !
On reflection I quite like the original post. Instead of the usual will he be success or not question which is heavily weighted in one direction. The question is will he be better than Burch? Be that 5th place or knocked out in playoff QF, pick your poison.
Let's hope better on both.
Neither of them were weird choices. Burchnall was slightly more leftfield, but what on earth is odd about a National League team appointing a guy who has managed previously in League One and spent most of the last ten years as an assistant at higher levels? That’s a pretty routine appointment, he’s not Kim Engstrom.
