More fool Vince then if he thinks he can buy his way to safetyAlthough keeping FGR in L1 would be a struggle for any manager but I see the same mistakes there as we had here. Conceeding from set pieces being one of them, conceeding late 1st and 2nd half goals another. Something we have cut down on massively this season.
Just had a quick look on their forum at the last few posts....
"Last night felt like a turning point - the south stand singing that they wanted IB out, singing against DV and booing at half-time and full-time. "
"I've been incredibly supportive of IB, but last night felt like a turning point.... Club captain telling fans to **** off was equally upsetting to see."
When it gets that bad (assuming they're honest observations), there's usually no turning it around.
My view, himself and the brothers cost us promotion by his appointment, with the even more bizarre timing of it. He shouldn’t have been appointed in the first place, the football was difficult to watch and uninspiring, and once we were sussed out teams got the better of us.
An FGR fans comments after the game:
Worst nights football I have seen since we lost to Staylebridge Celtic in the early Conference days. Please please Dale get shot of Birchnall tomorrow, he hasn't a clue. Ruining a great club that you have built up over the past few years.
I disagree. IMO with each manager/coach under the brothers we have evolved for the better. Ardley served a purpose. They bought IB to play a certain way, which in some senses he achieved. Now we have Williams and the football we play has evolved further, and for the better. Each manager building on what went on before them.
Had we got Willliams straight after Ardley, I have a feeling we would have got the same outcome as IB. It’s been mentioned that we have players now who are better suited to the high pressing game we want to play. Wootton wasn’t mobile or quick enough to be that player, as good as some of his other attributes are. It simply wouldn’t have worked. Add Cal Roberts in to that… do we honestly think he wanted to do the horrible side of the game? Not a chance IMO. Again, as good as Roberts is going forward, I think it’s a blessing he left.
