If you both started on Watney's Red Barrel I'm amazed you continued drinking, it was almost as bad as Brew Ten.

I actually quite liked my first pint of Red Barrel, but I didn't know any different, back up north I was soon guzzling enormous quantities of Duttons and Thwaites best bitter. The best pint I've ever had was Hartleys, brewed I think in Ulverston, I used to love that. Don't drink much beer these days, so I don't know if Hartleys is still a going concern, gone tits up, or been bought out by a bigger company.

Brew Ten, that was a shocker wasn't it Chris, someone should have gone to prison for that.

Used to love a proper pint of Thwaites Best and Danny Keg Mild also, Red House, Rosegrove. If possible to get a Leeds brewed Tetley's was nectar but most in Burnley came from Warrington, the Junction was decent however. At one point the Robinsons was good on Gannow lane and in the pub on Church Street.
Brew 10 was a poor drink but in the Midlands Brew 11 was and still is good if can be found well looked after.

I'm also ex Burnley Grammar, was and still am into Northern Soul and Motown. Went a bit quiet on here (apologies) for a few years due to working in Asia but solidly back now.

Talking about good pubs and strong ale. The Alma in Baxenden run by the Clegg family sold Lion brewery's "Heritage", quaff four pints of that and it was a goodnight from him and a goodnight from me.
