Change BSA to Triumph and it could have been me sinky. I'm still riding a Bonneville now but it doesn't leak oil, not quite the same.

Best run in ever was in Scarborough, after a day and a half of pitch battles the local Bizzies enlisted support from Newcastle and Leeds. So off we went to Filey for another do! Great days, but some combatants from both sides got seriously hurt and a couple of Burnley lads ended up doing some serious bird.

Me and my mates always ensured we knew where the escape route was, we always had to a runner, we were always outnumbered 10 to 1 or more. If we'd stood our ground we'd have been massacred. We also had to beware of being ambushed, devious tw@ts them Mods.

I was just reminiscing and the 100 or so Northern Soul aficionados I hung about with had not got a grammar school education between us, ambushing the bourgeoisie was all part of the fun.

I should have mentioned that one of the really outstanding things about the whole night were the tremendous arrangements by Joe Duddell and Fiona Brice.

It's pretty much generally acknowledged that "Northern Soul" was the creation of young working class British white men who identified with Black generated music from the other side of the Atlantic.

That was true of the 60´s BT with the Stones, at times the Beatles, Led Zep and many others. Many of them performed music originally written by black Americans.

John Lennon claimed that Smokey Robinson was the greatest living poet. Might have been a bit OTT but some of his love songs are still as valid as ever S_c.

    Surely Bobby Dylan mon ami,

"And so it did happen like it could have been foreseen,
The timeless explosion of fantasy's dream,
At the peak of the night, the king and the queen,
    Tumbled all down into pieces,

'The tragic figure', her sister did shout,
"Leave her alone, god damn you, get out",
And I in my armor, turning about,
And nailing her in the ruins of her pettiness,

Beneath a bare lightbulb the plaster did pound,
Her sister and I in a screaming battleground,
And she in between the victim of sound,
Soon shattered as a child to the shadows,

All is gone, all is gone, admit it, take flight,
I gagged in contradiction, tears blinding my sight,
My mind it was mangled, I ran into the night,
Leaving all of love's ashes behind me,

The wind knocks my window, the room it is wet,
The words to say I'm sorry I haven't found yet,
I think of her often and hope whoever she's met,
Will be fully aware of how precious she is"

Who am I to argue with the late, great John Lennon mon ami?

He'd have been feck all without Macca and Yoko.
