It’s a sad state of affairs that now, well into the computer age we don’t have sytstems that can distinguish between the ones in need and those that are not so benefits can be distributed accordingly, saving money all round.
    Third world or what.

Whatever age we live in, people will always present their finances to suit the audience. Rich people act poor, self-employed people will act rich when securing mortgages and poor when paying tax, and people who avoid work at all costs will always let the state know how broke they are. Finances can be very complex for pensioners, especially when you start weighing in assets.

Problem with giving pensioners fuel allowance would mean the government will raise retirement age (AGAIN) to cover for folk living longer. Plus where else would they get the money for illegal immigrants

I don't know the average fuel bill in the UK but I can say that We paid 2800€ for both gas and electricity last year. This was because the energy company EDF was amongst other things taxed heavily on their profits.
Happy to swap the fuel bill.

It really is frightening that this Laboir government is allowing the Energy companies to increase the prices by 10% when they promised they wouldn't and that's on top of the taking away the fuel allowance.

Here there is a simular pay out to the fuel allowance. If you don't pay income tax ie as a couple with no kids it's about a 32k income but you get points per child in education.
If you're on minimum wage which most people are because the french government give tax breaks to companies that employ people on minimum wage.

These people will recieve cheques that they can give to the energy companies as part of the payment.

Elderly people are also under the same scheme. so if their pension and other incomes are beneith the taxation level then they will recieve the cheques.

However this is not a new scheme it's been in for years.

It’s coming. Bit disingenuous though when EV cars cost 30% more than conventional cars.

Wonder what the real cost of electricity is? It’s the new tobacco, alcohol tax.

I've got solar panels and battery storage but it's clear to me electric cars are not the answer. Some things work but the technology is not there for cars to be viable. They say the range is getting longer. That's because the battery kWh are getting bigger not the technology getting better. I can see the shÃ*t hitting the fan in the next few years
