There is a massive difference from where he played for Coventry against us on the right to where we are now asking him to play.
I was at that game at Coventry where he ripped us a new one, and I don't remember seeing him much in their half. When he played in our half, he was a threat every time he had the ball.

He was brilliant that day, doing what he does best.. I'm of the opinion, that players should play in their natural position and not shoehorned into something that stifles their natural ability..

The signing of Jarvis is a strange one if we are insistent on playing wing backs.
Agree to the certain extent, as for Jarvis, Cal Roberts etc the issue with the Wingback is the complete Wingback is an absolute rarity and even more so at this level so your either playing a full back there or a winger and both have their restrictions, the positions there to keep width and get another midfielder in.

Agree, maybe the time is coming to move away from the wingbacks and go to something like a 433. If Jarvis is the player a lot in football think he can be and with JJs obvious qualities then playing them higher with Jatta could be the answer.

I?m not totally against WBs but only JJs effective there for us and that?s more to do with he?s just an extremely good player at this level. As I said before I don?t think the positions natural for most players up and down the leagues.

I take it you have inside info as you said similar before on him? I found it an eye opener back in Dec when the Hull manger (think it was) said he didn?t know what to do with him, so why have Notts given him such a long contract? I know we like to unearth undervalued talent but I definitely heard alarm bells in that interview and that?s whilst he was still at the club.

this. Echoes my thought processes too including Could've's contributions. I never saw anything that interested me from Will Randell, but Jarvis has shown the kind of potential that could make a difference - one day. Only rarely 'oven ready' for now though, and if the folks that can watch training are saying these things then it's a worry. We've paid good money for this chap, hope he and we know what we're doing but it's slow progress... eta maybe too slow

Whitaker - the ratings on this thread are about right and I made comments on the match thread, but I'm still very much IN on this player, as I imagine most fans will be.

You can see how much he wants to make amends for losing possession by all the scurrying back he does and how he shows again and again for the ball.
We already owe him a debt for the two crucial, point-winning goals he's scored and the scooped through-ball for the late equaliser at F'wood was fantastic. Bear with him. Unfortunately though the extra upper body strength he needs isn't an easy fix, it'll take age and hard work in the gym.

The player comp is clear for me - he's a poor man's Paul Scholes, although the hair colour helps a lot with that.

I can definitely see the thinking behind signing him - he's got that x-factor. It's a shame places like NCM have to crucify an experienced young player so soon after he's walked through the door.

Is he a 'wing-back'? Well, he is if he's picked there! 2 of the 10 outfield players have to play there. With the wide centre-backs better thought of as full-backs and the commitment to stretching the pitch with 2 wingers/wing-backs as well, players like Jarvis have to settle for that.
I didn't think he was as bad agianst Barrow as others rated him. We need JJ back and Tsaroulla to find consistency from somewhere. Right now, it's too much to ask Jarvis to be a consistent performing regular on a promotion chasing team in a really physical league.
