Middlesbrough to pip Cov for the playoff place .
Very poor performances even from those we rely on. Mikey Johnston showed real heart and apart from him Diakite looked class when he came on. I think he will be a main player for us next season. Its all over now, not sure I really want Tony Mowbray in charge next season. He just seems a bit too laid back for me. Just my thoughts. Incidentally only two players at half time on the whole pitch scored a 7. Both Coventry players. Rudoni and desilva. Shows what a poor match it was.
Swift a total disgrace again
Furlong, Styles absolutely shocking
Mowatt, a snail moves quicker
No leaders or characters in the team at all
Bartley our captain was terrible, just waves and points all game, add to that a coach who is quite simply out of his depth
Bring back Mc Innes to install some discipline
So very disappointing but actually, not that surprising. I forecast an Albion win, believing that they would be up for it and deliver a performance full of determination and desire; clearly, I should have known better. I, too, was very happy when Tony Mowbray was appointed but with each passing poor performance, I fear that his days as a successful manager are over. We need a complete overhaul and ruthless clear out of players that do not deliver consistently at the required level. The upside of this is that with a good team rebuilding during the Summer, we could have an exciting season next time around.
Missed watching the game due to family commitments today-seems like I didn't miss much😞
Today was an important match in terms of a major opportunity to get back into the playoffs and from the comments on here and match reports I've read it seems we completely blew it. The most irritating thing is that it seems we not only played badly but that too many players also lacked the drive and desire needed? Simply not acceptable if true.
As others have said, we can now only look forward to a clear out before next season and a rebuild. Ajayi, Swift, Diangana all have their contracts up in June so will be able to lose them (even if on "frees") and loans for Holgate, Armstrong and Lankshear also all end. Bartley has had a year's extension triggered and if Ajayi goes then that's OK by me -but only if he is retained as a squad player and we find a decent younger CB (though we still have Taylor of course).
We have improved the team this season over last with our acquisitions and I'm reasonably happy with Griffiths, Furlong (whilst recognizing his defensive short comings ), Diakite (surely must see more of him next season), Heggem, Styles, Price, Fellows, Maja, Dike, Grant and Johnston.
Of course, in an ideal world, we could seek improvements across the pitch but personally I think the priorities are for a better central defender (don't think we really got over losing Kipre) and a more creative midfielder to go alongside Price. Both Mowatt and Molumby have their qualities but I'm sure they can be improved upon (not that their contracts are up of course).
Be nice to get a proven number 9 goal scorer but then some of the key reasons we haven't been getting goals is a lack of attacking pace, not seeing that forward pass/run enough, not getting enough bodies forward in time and not getting enough balls into the box. If the number 9 doesn't get the service, he won't get goals. Give Maja and Dike the service and we shouldn't need another CF.
The moot point is perhaps more around whether we keep TM. I like the guy and was relieved when he was appointed after losing Corberan but even then recalled that his previous spell with us was not without frustrations. Yes, the handbrake has been let off a bit under him but he still hasn't managed to get this group of players playing to their full potential. Too much swapping and changing probably hasn't helped in terms of continuity/momentum and the favouritism shown to the likes of Swift and Diangana is also a concern.
