On the subject of asbestos, I worked on the pioneer Vitrifix project, which was/is a method of safely destroying asbestos. We installed the kit at Faslane submarine base in the 80?s where they were cutting up old subs lined with the stuff.

    Grist, here you go

His Majesty's Naval Base, Clyde, primarily sited at Faslane on the Gare Loch, is one of three operating bases in the United Kingdom for the Royal Navy. It is the navy's headquarters in Scotland and is best known as the home of Britain's nuclear weapons, in the form of nuclear submarines armed with Trident missiles

Remember clambering on dust covered asbestos pipes 45 years ago in a power station whilst an apprentice installing new flow monitoring equipment.
Totally unaware of the hazards it posed back then and occasionally as upon reading references to it like this wonder if this might catch up with me one day.
It’s always there in the back of the mind.

After Uni, got a job working for The Antarctic Survey but literally got 'cold feet' and decided against it when I read horror stories of the cabin fever others suffered whilst working in such remote circumstances for 9+ months of the year.
Over the years, I?’ve been on the other side of these shutdowns trying to manage the mass influx of temporary labour…mission nigh on impossible.
So not wanting the unwary to get hurt or unintentionally causing damage to plant and equipment that could delay start up ( cause me greater headaches ) found it better to just leave them in the relatively safety of the temporary site huts.
