A massive chance was missed this season and some games which we were expected to win at home, against un-fancied teams, cost us dear, winning just a couple of those would have seen us automatically promoted.

IMHO, had the brothers fired Maynard in January, we'd have gone up.
Your last sentence is based on nothing. It?s all ifs, buts and maybes. You are assuming that had SM gone in January we?d have got someone better? that also might not have happened. January from memory was a month where we were bang in form and possibly the most fruitful month of SM?s Notts stay. I don?t think many saw the last 10 games being so catastrophic.

Yes from me with reservations. Certainly played some of, if not the best, football I've seen at Notts. I used to watch some of the passing and movement and it was amazing for League 2 level. He knows the players and club, they players like him, he's got a much better defence and keeper, he's available and does play good football. He had an absolutely crap defence and a keeper who you were suprised when they made a good save, this can't be understated.

On the other hand he ****ed off but then again this is football. If we got a new manager in and they did well, they'd be poached as well. I certainly would back LW to get us up next season with the right signings.

We just got rid of Maynard who massively divided the fanbase. Based on this thread, Williams would do the same. Based on that, I don't believe the brothers will choose that path right now.

It also likely that the swift sacking of Maynard will lead to a longer search, so don't expect an outcome soon.

I don't think we can take this board as representative of the fan base. I would be quite happy to take Williams back. He would have been a fool not to give Swansea a go when they came knocking.

Was it a swift sacking though? If it was based on the run in, that's at least a couple of months. Not sure what would have happened had we somehow squeezed through the play-offs. The comments on the statement would still have been correct about performances and results.

Its a no from me. As much as I hate the fact that every Notts corner doesn't currently get past the first man (solution, which is not rocket surgery, is to either change the corner taker or put a Notts player on the front post to flick on) I wouldn't be able to cope with watching every corner we have being a short corner ultimately ending up back at our goalkeeper again.

As much as we have lots to thank LW for in getting us back in the football league, I do recall quite a few of us fans disappointed in the style of football being played at the end of his tenure and the mistakes being made by the players on a weekly basis. Something that LW should have sorted out, but didn't, through training and player coaching.

A cautious yes to Williams, but it's always interesting to see the results of Bros' machinations. It's never the obvious choice for players or coaches. Although I did expect Maynard.

I dont get the love in really for Williams. It was a great time admitted and he talked the talk. Loved his interviews. But he left us in a decline, fair enough, he seemed to know the defence was the problem, but did little to change it, and we would have definitely got worse as the season progressed even if he'd stayed. The main reasons though are that he didn't exactly look loyal to Swansea for long, WBA rumours had fans peeved off quickly. Bear in mind he left us to be nearer family but then seemed to be prepared to move to the midlands again fairly quick. His style of football got to the fans down there too. Too much passing around. If he came and we did well, how long before he left again? Also he didn't seem willing to change things up towards the end of his spell. Yes, we have better defenders now but he also had a rule of no shots from outside the area. Two players have mentioned that. So unless he came with new ideas and ways, we are back to the tippy happy, struggling to break teams down who just sit and wait. Thanks for what you did Luke, but no way would I want you back. Too much distrust, a fresh start is needed for me.

Williams would have to achieve far more than he did last time to be linked with other jobs, I reckon he'd have to get us into League One then probably the top half of that league before Championship clubs look at him again.

So according to BetVictor (strangely the only bookie group that seems to be offering anything on the market), Joao Alves is now 1/2 massive favourite, with Des Buckingham second at 3/1 and our Luke at 6/1. Sweden u21 manager Daniel Backstrom is 8/1. Jon Brady (who I rate ... and if I didn't have a stake restricted account with BetVictor, would have a sneaky tenner on) is out to 20/1.

If Alves gets the job, imagine the meltdown
