    I’n gonna predict what I was saying originally… 100m + Harvey Elliot.

We’ll sign either Wissa or Ramos.

If we end up with Ramsdale, Thiaw, Ramsey, Elliot, Woltemade, Wissa or Ramos… this will have been the best transfer window in memory… leaving us with a much stronger squad than we have ever had since the bench/ no of permitted subs increased, far better equipped to compete across 4 competitions.

For all the nonsense talked we should be looking back at the window as a very happy bunch of fans.

    Good write-up from Henry Winter.

Watched a bit of Nick Woltemade at the Under-21 Euros this summer. Tournament top scorer with six goals, Germany’s danger-man. Exciting signing by Newcastle United, quite a coup getting him ahead of Bayern Munich. Wonder if he heard the passionate atmosphere at St James' Park on Monday and fancied being a part of it. Judging by mixed zones in Slovakia, Woltemade speaks good English.

Strengths: good touch, great with his back to goal, enjoys the physical contest with defenders, excellent link-up play (will hold ball up for Newcastle’s fliers), a 9 who also drops into 10 positions. Not lightning fast. Goals: mainly via right foot, but decent on his left, gets headers (he’s 6ft 6in) but not dominant aerially.

Very well-controlled by Charlie Cresswell and Jarell Quansah in the final v England in Bratislava. Woltemade disappointing, didn’t have a shot over the 120 mins. Germans put in 44 crosses, all but five cut out, especially by outstanding Cresswell and Quansah.

In Team of the Tournament, praised by Uefa’s technical observer group: Woltemade “pivotal” for Germany. Of his group-stage hat-trick against Slovenia, technical observers praised his “range of methods” for scoring. First goal: “brilliant positional play as he receives inside the box with an open body position to finish first time”. Second: “makes a run outside Slovenia's two centre-backs after Germany win possession and play forward quickly”. Third: penalty.

Against Czechia in group stage: header from a long free-kick (+ 2 assists). Quarters: one goal, rising high above two Italians to head in, + one assist. Semi: quick reaction to put away rebound after dinked effort saved by France keeper Restes.

All the talk before and after the final was of Stuttgart striker joining Bayern. So smart move by Newcastle (and huge profit for Stuttgart) he’s 23, still developing, and players improve further under Eddie Howe. Woltemade's signing is a mood-changer on Tyneside, although obviously intensifies speculation about Isak.
