Mason couldn?t inspire a donkey with juicy carrots standing there with hands in pockets most of the match!
Agree that he is hardly an inspirational figure (difficult to see how he could be less so!) but at least they got over the blip after about 20 mins when the energy levels dropped and the desire and intent returned.
Of course we still lack the creativity, final decision making and finishing but if you keep trying and keep knocking the law of averages should mean a goal will come, which it finally did. Too much to hope that this win will now open the floodgates but I don't think anyone should underestimate the power that a bit of confidence may provide.
Can't see us getting anything away against Coventry but I hope that some of the passion displayed today at least carries over.
A good win given the circumstances and hopefully something to build on.
Reading the commentary, Maja seems to be an issue, either in terms of fitness or effort. So it?s great Heggebo scored; decent goal too.
Just 4 points off play offs.
We only seem to have one tactic though and that?s give it to Johnston and hope for the best
It is very evident to me that we miss Tom Fellows badly; a bad mistake selling him, a mistake that cannot be blamed on Mason. Selling arguably your best player and replacing him with Iling-Jnr, shows bad judgement.
Despite some of Fellows's rather patchy performances in the second half of last season, like Ketts -and I'm sure many others too-I didn't want to sell him either and we certainly miss his wide play and number of assists but given our PSR situation his sale was pretty inevitable.
Sadly, Illing Junior may have some ability but he is no replacement for Fellows and neither is Wallace. I take Matt's point about Bostock's age and the physicality of the Championship but agree with Al that he should at least be given some game time.
Collyer may still have more to offer of course but both he and Junior are loan players who won't be here next season so building some first team experience to aid Bostock's development would surely not be a bad thing in any case as it may also benefit us going forward.
