Can the Tory loons (and others) consider signing the RAAC petition to get their numbers up

    https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/701337

I’ve got both family and friends caught up in it. Absolute disgrace how these people have been treated.
    Genuinely can?t credit it.

People who’ve paid council rent all their days and who have scrimped and saved to take the plunge in their 50s/60s to get on the property ladder for the first time in order to provide for their family down the line. Now in negative equity, won’t get another mortgage and left in complete limbo.

When I stayed in our 'Hen Hoose' I can remember a couple of times we had guys in cheap suits telling us to buy our houses and make our fortunes. That was the actual terminology used. I can remember laughing and telling the them to do one and get a grip.

I liked the house, but certainly didn't want to own one. I have also always been against the dreadful right to buy act, so was never going to interest me.

It was fairly common knowledge at the time that the roofs were dodgy, hence the council put proper roofs on some, before finding a cheaper alternative, which is what our house got at the time and were looking much improved.

I'm still of the opinion that the council acted too hastily on the matter and never really explored fixing the roofs at a cost people could afford, including the council.
I also still go over to Torry regular and the area is like a ghost town. In the part of Girdleness Road where I stayed, there is one owner left and it is grim as f*ck. The Council promises of boarding up properties and ensuring the rubbish dumped would be cleared weekly hasn't materialsed and folk are getting into the houses and vandalising them or ripping out any copper pipes or wiring they can get their hands on.

Some of the owners featured in the P&J at least have other owners living around them, but others are not so fortunate.

The owners will get their money in the end, but remember that these houses have always been nearly impossible to sell and have sadly never been worth much.

    Capitalism at it's worst.

Strangely enough, many of the Council Tenants have scored through it, by getting houses they wouldn't have got near if it wasn't for Raac.

A distant relation of ours has got a brand spanking new 4 bedroom house in Garthdee through it.

There are also a few worried folk in the BoD area who are worried about the influx of 'Torry folk' in that new housing estate built off the Ellon Road. Heard it mentioned a few times at my work.

I have every sympathy for those who will be thousands out of pocket, but hear nothing about the rigour of pre-purchase surveys insisted upon by mortgage lenders.

More decades ago than I care to remember, an acquaintance was turned down by a usurer since his intended purchase in Garthdee was an SSHA property with a steel frame which the surveyor counselled to be at risk of corrosion during the requsted mortgage term. Not one has collapsed yet.

Were the Girdleness properties sufficiently surveyed in advance of purchase to expose the fact that they were constructed from concrete Aero bars? I?d assume that that?s been investigated and ranks closed between the money-lenders and the theodolite-wielders.

I?ll sign the petition and wish good fortune to the exploited and unfortunate.

    I blame Thatcher, of course.

Kincorth would have been a better place name for him and his title.
Those c*nts would happily welcome a Tory.
Ok DD - I will bite- keep that **** on the stinky side of the Dee. No self respecting loon or Quine from Kincorth would vote Tory, many voted SNP or Labour but no too many Tory.

Nae many would have voted for him in Torry either if he was up for election- you lot are daft but not totally stupid so I will give you that.

    But you can keep him

Hasn?t been a local company for many years and irregularities in finance shows the debt liability is far greater than publicly acknowledged. When due diligence was done on the original offer became apparent that the company was not in as good a position as it had been reporting. The revised offer reflects the current valuation
Folk should be prosecuted but the spivs at the top will just move onto a new role somewhere else in the old boys network
    It?s a closed shop

Signed. Despite coming from the other side of the river and having a lifelong rivalry with inhabitants of Seagull Island, this is as you say a disgrace how folk have been treated.

I hope they get the proper outcome

With respect DD that suggests you maybe don’t know the ins and outs.
I don’t think enough do. These people are not ‘getting their money’.
It’s like the PO scandal, so egregious people can’t believe it.

As for rights to buy and capitalism, hate the game and not the players at the lowest rung.

The council have made offers to owners and deducted money from the offer to cover 'repairs', leaving a massive shortfall between what they will get and what they are expecting, making it near impossible for most of them to buy anything else.

They are also not entitled to any preferential treatment for the housing waiting lists and must get in line with everyone else waiting.

The council are using the threat of compulsory purchase orders to force things through on their terms.

The dialogue from the council towards the homeowners has been shockingly poor since day one.

They have been fairly sh*t with tenants too. Telling some if they refused two offers, they would lose their home and the council would not be responsible for re-homing them. C*nts!

The empty properties around them are being targeted by all sorts of anti-social behaviour which I have seen with my own eyes.

I know one family who sorted something out regarding a settlement, they may well be the only ones, but they were in the fortunate position of selling the flat after the father had died, so they were just glad to be shot of it.

I am always skeptical with our local press gets involved with anything like this and can't help wonder where they were on the matter earlier. Too busy doing puff pieces on property p*rn or reviews for foodies.

I do believe the owners will get their money, despite what is currently happening. There are elections next year and that always brings the promises out from our politicians.
