I just read today that zillions of complaints have made Sainsburys remove an advert for a frock because it said it was excellent for going for a walk or for wearing in the evening.

The complaints were based on the horrific thought that a company like Sainsbury's would encourage women to go out for a walk when it was clearly dangerous for a woman to be outside on her own.

Now this worries me on many levels, some it's an age thing ( why would anyone consider complaining about an advert for one)
But the culture of fear is ridiculous, who wants to bring their daughter up not to be confident enough to go outside?

I see girls in Hungary, walking home, late at night, street lighting nowhere near as bright as it is in the UK, and they haven't got a care in the world.

If you're walking behind them, you don't have to change your route or fall back because they're not scared of you.

DD have you actually read that article?

It's the racist Daily Mail going after "woke" Sainsburys.
There's history there (from memory it was to do with them having a black family in a Christmas ad, there was also something about Sainsburys pulling advertising on that Andrew Neill cesspool of a TV channel, anyway, there's no love lost between Sainsburys and the Daily Mail).

There may well have been "zillions" of complaints, the article quotes, what, four?

We're collectively buying what they're selling when we give credence to anything The Daily Mail says.

Go on DD, just for a laugh. You’re working in John Lewis & this person wants to try on a jumper. What changing room are you sending them into?

That is Madonna, proving that plastic surgery is a very bad idea. And it is highly unlikely she would shop in John Lewis

At 52 I wouldn't really class myself as a girl. Actually I wouldn't class any of (the sadly departed) female posters on her as girls. A wifie, a woman, a lady, even (at a stretch) a quine. But not a girl.......and definitely never, ever a bitch.

Maybe says more about your general attitude to females than anything else. But then you do largely act like a silly wee boy so maybe I shouldn't read too much into it.

But I do apologise for jot being more obvious, and for not calling myself by my full first name. Maybe it should be mandatory to state our ***, gender identity, ***ual orientation....even ethnicity.....on our profiles. That way it would make it much easier for you to determine who to speak to in demeaning ways, and who to have a ladish rant and bants with.

And that's all it is, fear propaganda. Dreamt up by the right and peddled by the spoon fed.

Your lack of knowledge of the likes of Andrew Tate just show how out of touch you are with the world and the real dangers out there for modern youths.

Things change. The world is different to the one of your youth and young adulthood. It's different to the world of your parents who's attitudes you likely rolled your eyes at.. You might not like it but it's how life works. Things, people and attitudes change. It used to be 'ok' to enslave black people, to treat women as house wives, to demonise homo***uality. Thankfully we are making in roads in to eradicating such practices (still a way to go sadly), and allowing people to be themselves. I cant profess to understand everything going on today, but I do understand life is not black and white, and as long as people aren't doing others any harm you should leave them be, and even embrace the different. It makes for quite a nice varied life.

Be more Stewarty. I may not agree with his fears/concerns, but at least he can accept people living 'alternatice' lifestyles.

DondyDan, for ages I've stated that DonsDaft is, IMHO, at the wind up.

I think he adopts this overt, Alf Garnett-esque persona to get a reaction.

    That remains my belief.

I also think that for the most part and I’m certain we’d actually get on in real life. Let’s face it though, if it wasn’t for us tearing each other to shreds, nothing would happen on the OT board. That said, I’m right & he’s wrong

    100%

Get it put into off topic where it belongs.

Your cricket threads are not in the fitba section, I, once a year put up a Tour de France thread, that goes into off topic too.

So why the fück are a bunch of over dressed Yanks with excessively dodgy trousers allowed to pick up a ball that some sort of weird shape in the fitba board.

I'm often of a mind that you are right, but even if on the wind-up, it can be f****n offensive. Not necessarily to me but to many others.

And being on the wind up plants dangerous ideas in the heads of the impressionable.

I do generally agree with his football posts so he's not all bad.

I'm not that bad at all really.

Although we get sucked into a slagging match, Mason, wrong though he is, does manage to bring out the worst in me. ( a fact he'll be delighted about)

    Anyway for the record.

I don't believe a person can change their sèx no matter how much they would like to.

I do believe that making this fantasy into law is a dangerous thing, not because of women's changing rooms but because it's easily used as an example of the madness of the liberal ( for want of a better word) attracting more and more people towards ultra right wing politics.
This is why I often accuse Mason of helping the Tories back into power.

52 is still a girl, or more correctly a quine as far as I'm concerned, don't be offended by it, it's a compliment.
I still have no idea why Aberdeen Ladies ever wanted to change their name to Aberdeen Women, but it's their choice I suppose.

Woke does my fückin head in, I don't believe in banning words, I don't think it helps, it just moves things underground.
I spoke yesterday about a university lecturer being close to despair about being unable to do his job properly.
    I don't think there's a way back from this, I'm pretty sure we're fücked.

There, none of that was a wind up.
