Are we really trying to compare Fergie and McInnes right now? Its like trying to compare apples and orange. They were two completely different era's and no one can ever know how either would have performed in the other. Christ, Mcinnes was 7 when Fergie took charge of Aberdeen, so its hardly the basis for comparison.

As for trophies, well league first, SC second and LC 3rd. I would take any of them over any good run in any competition. Seeing as we can realistically only win 2 of the 3, its the SC every time. If he can win that, then he deserves credit... wont happen though.

Isn't that what some fans have been doing with every manager since Fergie left?

We’re allowed to compare him to McGhee, not Fergie

I thought it was an unwritten rule on here these days that you aren't allowed to compare McInnes to McGhee?

Fair enough but you definitely shouldn't compare anyone to Fergie, that was a one off and will never happen again.

Stupie my point was whether or not a class manager like Fergie during 1 of his greatest reigns would win the league.
Its comparing a truly great manager with DM and wondering what if anything DM could do to inspire this team to perform far better.

Its hypothetical of course but interesting I think.

I wonder how training or team talks or tactics would be different.

The problem is that the current era of football is based on finances, whereas Fergies was based on ability. Yes there were some finances involved, but they were achievable. Trying to compare if Fergie would do well in the current climate of Scottish football is nonsensical. He would very likely bring a more stern approach and boot players @rses, but in the era of snowflakes and poovery, i dont think he would succeed with our current crop. That said, most of them wouldnt be here under him anyway. Its far too complex to try and compare managers, even comparing him to McGhee or Calderwood is far too complex. Again different era's and different level of competition in the game.

There was much talk of burnout at the time (or very soon afterwards at least)

Personally I would say he got them to the peak of their careers at an early age.

Far too much emphasis is put on age nowadays.

Your best striker might be 16, play him now.
He might be no good by 20

Problem nowadays is nae reserve fitba.

That's where young lads got toughened up, the jump fae 19s to first team is too big and the young lads arenae streetwise enough.
