Not sure if true, but if so, don’t think £400k enough - would barely cover development costs. Will be interesting to see United’s take if something concrete comes in. Realistically we have to be a selling club, but at same time winning promotion has to be the priority. Big clubs are chasing him for a reason and he could have a big part to play in that. For the players sake as well, he will develop faster here getting game time, rather than being lost somewhere in a big clubs academy. Hopefully here for at least another season.
Yes, we are a selling Club but selling too many, too quickly and greedily is what put us in the position we are in in the first place. We will need to sell occasionally in the future -we historically always have, even going back to Ron Yeats - but we currently need to re-build and this is not the time to be selling, unless it’s stupid money.
As regards the lad himself, he only needs to look to the recent past to see how ‘big’ moves too early have worked out for the likes of Harry Soutter, Ali Coote and yes, even Ryan Gauld. Leaving now doesn’t serve him any interest whatsoever.
We've been burned recently with John Souttar though on the transfer front. It's a tough one.
If greed had not got in the way, we may not have been in this position! The list of shamefully bad transfers is far too long and will be hurting us for many years to come. I really hope everyone at the club now is aware of this and dont put the lad on inflated contracts that are detrimental in the short term in the hope if a future windfall.
The point is, with that one, we never took the £600k offered by Sunderland and ended up with much less.
There was more than just that! Then there are the guys who should have been developed more before being cashed in for ever decreasing values.
