Fact is, we don’t have many players capable of playing against top class bowlers and are unlikely to produce any whilst we continue to promote almost pointless white ball slogs, and continue to denigrate red ball cricket to times of year which make county trundlers and has beens unplayable and do not allow our top players to play in.

The system is broken. And has been broken for some time. it will likely never be fixed.

The argument that “no one goes to 4 day county games” is always trotted out.

Might that have something to do with the fact they are played almost entirely when it’s either cold, outside of school holidays and on weekdays have something to do with it?

Are they marketed? Have they changed with the times? Of course not. They are seen almost as friendlies with crap teams are seen in football. Roses game exempted.

The ECB always blame county cricket. They have created the problem, and made it worse.

The odd slogged win isn’t going to keep folk going to test matches. Especially when we start losing series 3 or 4 nil at home.

It will be the 4 day county game at fault again though… can’t wait to see what crap ideas they come up with next.

Maybe the O10. Just 10 balls, could be over in 20 minutes. Just the sort of prep our test players need.

A thumping win today sees us make the semi-finals of the Royal London one-day cup (the 50 over one) on superior run rate where we will be away to Lancashire on Friday.

It's been a bit of a part Second XI contest for all counties because of the demands of the franchise cup, but its given valuable experience to a lot of fringe players and youngsters. It's also been very watchable on the free live streams.

Looking forward to the conclusion of the red ball game next month.

The schedule is horrendous. When was the last round of County Championship games? Several weeks ago. Basically South Africa have had more cricket - the one game v England Lions.
We simply don’t give our own cricketers a fighting chance and expect them to turn up and be in form.

Great to see the younger lads get a chance, even if they have been up against players of similar age and standard in the main.
Stand out player for me was Dane Schadendorf, a proper keeper.
Agree in general about the streams, but today's was unwatchable in parts.

Brett Hutton the stand out for me, some sensational spells. Schadendorf has looked good behind the stumps, but has disappointed with the bat.

Yep, not up to the usual Trent Bridge live stream standard, but it can't be easy to provide from grounds like Grantham and Welbeck.

Still a fantastic service for free!

Can anyone tell me how long we've been playing games at Welbeck? I've followed from afar in recent decades and hadn't noticed its use.

When I was an avid watcher, our non-Trent Bridge games were always at the likes of Cleethorpes (really stretching Nottinghamshire's county lines there) or Worksop.

Seems to have been an annual thing since 2015, apart from a rained off game and covid:

Thanks Elite. I assume there be will a few six-fingered members of the crowd at those games, which must making catching the ball a little easier.

Not to mention getting a bit more spin on the ball!

When Welbeck take a wicket a common response is "well bowled, gimme a high six".
