Baldwin has probably done better than any offer he had from us or what he was on already.

Yes, he was our best defender and we could well look at his departure with regret. I hope Maynard wasn't influential in this in any major way...

I do think he probably needed to move on, however. Before us he had hardly played any first team football at all, so the last two years will have been a momentous time for him, lots to absorb and lots of lessons to learn. Maybe he hasn't always taken these on board or reacted well. He was probably in real need of a change and a chance to reset.

Really enjoyed watching him play and wish him well. I think Bradford will benefit from taking him.

    Good luck Aden.👍
You and other defenders received some harsh criticism at times, but you will be remembered as part of the team to get us back in the EFL👏👏

Wish him well, though. Fun player to watch and outstanding in the NL, but we needed to improve on him.
Yeah, a bit of revisionism there for sure. Baldwin was so careless at times, and it had noting to do with our style of play. Watch the Shrewsbury highlights back. The third goal sums him up. Having already made two awful mistakes that led to goals, he chases a nothing ball down the channel and half-heartedly lobs is from a completely safe position across the goal.

He was great on his day, but overall he just seemed too lax and didn't inspire confidence.

The respective fortunes of Messrs Baldwin and Platt next season will probably provide some answers to a question that has been debated all season i.e. What was the problem - the player, or the way they were being asked to play?

Yes, I'm always happy for the football market place to settle these kinds of debates. Where players end up and what happens to them provides the answers. I was always higher than most on Elliot Hewitt, for example, and he's spent nearly all of the last 5 or 6 years at a higher level than us.
And then there was all those arguments during the Nolan/Ardley eras. We have one subject of those, RR, now a Championship player while others that were more touted by some at the time quickly went to the likes of Boston, Buxton, Nuneaton, Kidsgrove etc or retirement. On the other hand, Jake Reeves quickly won a promotion to L1.

I’m afraid we won’t as the answer is both.

In Baldwin‘s case he had potential, but his attitude was the issue for me. He always believed he was far better than he actually was. The shrews game demonstrates this completely. He isn’t trying to “play his way out” he is trying to nutmeg his player on our own goaline.

I’ll remember him fondly for the non league, not for league 2.

Wish him well at bratfud but can’t see it working out sadly.

interesting twist with Baldwin and Platt! Someone on here described AB as a Rolls Royce of a player, and when he's performing well he does seem to glide through the gears.

For me, whatever the defensive setup, defenders and goalies need to have a huge dollap of consistency. Leave the mercurial to strikers and midfielders. So I think it suits us to switch out a player with a season range of 2-8 rating, for a 6-7 one, but it will be interesting to see how they both do in comparison.
