If you had to pick a squad of 23 players from all the nations present in Brazil would there be any England players in it? The answer is likely to be no.

Same can probably said at most tournaments we have attended in past 30yrs. Fact is we are not producing world class players therefore are unlikely to compete. We rank somewhere between 10-16 in the world as a rule which statistically makes us last 16 at best.

We've not had a true game changer since Gascoigne, a player that produces that bit of magic even when they have been quiet for 89mins. Messi has done it twice already, Suarez had two sights of goal and never looked like missing. Neymar has been poor but finds the net.

We have a crop of good youngsters coming through but are/will they be world class. Remember Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes, Beckham, Terry, Ferdinand the golden generation, made QF twice in about 5 tournaments.

Messi, Zidane, Ronaldo, Figo, Xavier, Iniesta, Ronaldinho, Suarez, Van Persie we would long for players lik

Maybe the answer is to do a Germany, totally rebuild with youngsters taking the odd hiding but look at them now
